Dahveed
Hi. I have yet to find this problem anywhere else online. It's very bizarre, and at first was just an annoyance.. until now, as you will see. For some reason, NPCs will no longer automatically initiate scripted conversations with me in my current playthrough. (For example: when a guard tries to arrest me, or an npc approaches me to initiate conversation for a quest.) At first this was just annoying, and a bit weird. If I commit a crime, for example, a guard would just walk up to me and follow me around rather than talking to me. I had tried to find a fix before, but came up empty-handed and just chalked it up to the "oh well" column and moved on. My character wasn't much of a "criminal" type beforehand anyways, so I didn't think it would be a game stopper. However now I am trying to complete the thieves' guild quest chain. Everything has gone well, and in fact I'm at one of the very last scenes. I don't want to spoil it in case you haven't been there, but to make a long story short, the Gray Fox tries to auto-initiate a conversation with me but it will not work. My character is frozen in place for this scene, since the Gray Fox and another NPC must have their own conversation first; this would normally be fine: the game freezes me in place to witness this conversation before the Gray Fox talks to me. However he cannot because of this bug. Instead he just stands there staring at me and my character cannot move, walk, run, open menus, or do anything in game. The game literally stops like this and I cannot do anything - can't even move to go talk to him to finish the quest. I have already tried disabling all mods, even disabling all different mesh texture folders etc, disabling OBSE and OBGE and so forth. Nothing seems to work and it's driving me crazy. I really took my time doing the entire Thieves Guild, so it's a real bummer to get to the climax like this and have it bugged out. I scoured the net for this, but couldn't find anything... any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Dahveed
Update - okay it turns out this is a specific bug with the Thieves' Guild quest line. I have since used console commands to fix it. However, I am still having the annoying dialogue but. If I commit a crime in front of a guard, he won't arrest me... He'll just run up to me and follow me and say nothing... Until I talk to him, when he goes into his "arrest" dialogue. Has anyone else had this bug before? It's getting on my nerves... If not, go get one and then get to a part where an NPC would initiate dialogue. Post back what happens.
