Help with Installation of Wrye Bash on Win 7

HI everyone, I am new to this modding stuff, but I enjoy it quite a lot. I even started learning how to make my own, but I can't for the life of me get Wrye Bash to work. I have downloaded and attempted to install the Wrye Bash 275 Self installer and the Archived version 287. I followed the instructions on the how-to website - I unzipped the files to the Oblivion directory and installed python. But when I click the launch button for Bash nothing happens. Now I have a lot of files in my Oblivion directory clogging up space. Please help me resolve this issue, I would really like to use this this program. Thank you in advance.

wow I can hardly believe I saw this... I go on this section of the forums probably 1 or 2 every 2-3 months... (in other words in the future faster response usually come at the bethsoft Wrye Bash thread or the dedicated thread here)

the thing to do is get a bug dump;

open command prompt and

1. cd to your oblivion/mopy directory (ie cd "C:Program Files/bethesda softworks/oblivion/mopy")

2. type C:/Python26/python.exe "Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw" -d

(adjusting the path to your Python installation as necessary)

and post what it says here or if you can understand it resolve it there.

I am so happy you did see my post. Thanks for replying, I was wondering if I may have posted in a bad spot. So, here is the bug dump, and no, I can't make any sense of it :wallbash:

c:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Mopy>C:\python26\python.exe "

wrye bash launcher.pyw" -d

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "wrye bash launcher.pyw", line 74, in <module>

import bosh

File "c:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Mopy\bosh.py", line 8

1, in <module>

import balt

File "c:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Mopy\balt.py", line 3

7, in <module>

import wx

ImportError: No module named wx

Thanks again for the help, I hope together we can solve this - I love making and using mods, I have spent so many hours reviewing the construction set tutorials (when I should've been studying my course work.) Have a good day.

The problem is that you Oblivion is installed in the protected Program Files folder structure, and Windows is placing data files in the Virtual Store (Wrye Bash expects them to be elsewhere). The solution is to completely (as per Bben's Reinstall Procedure) uninstall Oblivion and then reinstall it outside of the Program Files folder structure, somewhere like C:\Games\Oblivion\ .
