Stop auto weapon set switching

I have searched high and low, and so far I have found nothing that does this. I have become somewhat frustrated by my arcane warrior mage auto switching between his staff and sword, and there is no ideal way to prevent this from happening. I would just like to leave the character's behavior in the tactics or whatever to be set to default, but I would like for him to not switch between his weapon sets aside from manually switching them or via a specific trigger in his tactics. I feel like I'm not the only one frustrated by the auto weapon switching either.....so would anyone have any desire to make a mod like this?

I apologize for being unclear. Let me try again.

 

The problem I am trying to avoid is the unfortunate tendency of my characters set to default behavior in the tactics area to switch between weapon set 1 and weapon set 2. One side affect is that my arcane warrior mage has to constantly put his melee weapon away to cast spells; however, there are further problems with his propensity to switch weapon sets. One such is that when combat magic is turned off, his staff does more damage with more reliable hitting and at a distance. However, even if he is attacking a bad guy who is far away, the moment he is attacked by a melee character he switches to his melee weapon set. This then makes him have to run over to the bad guy he was attacking in order to fight him. The only way to prevent him from doing this is either to take control of him or to set him to "ranged" behavior. However, if I then want him to use his melee weapons with combat magic, I have to go back into the tactics screen and switch him back to default. This is somewhat annoying.

 

Thus, I was wondering if anyone wanted to/knew how to to make a mod that prevented the auto switching between weapon sets. It would be most ideal to just have tactics set up that dictated which weapon set my mage was using. I promise, whatever solution you think would solve my problem does not, aside from a mod like this. Indeed, I have been using the drawn weapons casting mod temporarily as a means to be able to equip melee weapons at all, but as I have outlined, there are other problems I wish to avoid.

There is a way to set the tactics for each weapon set or type of attack being received. My Lelina is set as an archer with tactics as follows: self being attacked by ranged or magic attacks switch to ranged weapons; self being attacked by melee attack switch to melee weapons. If you do not want them to switch at all, just set them self any switch to either ranged or melee weaapons. No mod is needed for this.

This doesn't work (setting self: any switch to weapon set x) for at least two reasons. Firstly, just setting a tactic to tell the character to switch weapon sets causes the character to just keep switching weapon sets back and forth without doing anything else. I made a video demonstration of this that is failing to upload to youtube right now, but if you don't believe me, I'll keep trying until you can see for yourself. Secondly, even if this did work for forcing a character to bypass the default behavior mechanics (which it doesn't, remember), this wouldn't solve the problem ultimately, because if I manually switched the weapon sets for the character and then let the tactics take over control, the character would just immediately switch back to the weapon set as dictated by the tactics. I.e. it would still be impossible to manually control which weapon set was used by the character without controlling him the whole time.

 

What I wish is that my character would just not switch weapons unless told (while set to default behavior), and that he would not switch weapon sets without being manually told. That is what I want a mod to allow me to do, and as I said before, the only way to make that work is to have a mod. So again I'll say...there is no solution to this other than a mod.

 

By the way, if you have your Lelina set to default behavior, you don't even need the tactic "self being attacked by melee attack switch to melee weapons" because she will do that automatically. There, now you get another tactics slot for free you didn't even know you had! Of course other behaviors change weapon set switching mechanics, so perhaps not if she's set to ranged or something else.

Wow, I thought it was just my ridiculously mod-overloaded game that did that :laugh: Only way I can get Nathaniel to wear swords is to take away his bow. It is a mod that is causing this, you just need to figure out which one. I usually solo so it's not much of a priority for me but it is definitely caused by two or more mods conflicting with each other.

Benjah, RB is right, what you are descibing is not normal, and you have to have some sort of mod conflict causing what you are describing. What you think my Leliana should be doing is not what she is doing, and I have only two mods that are not cosmetic.
