Jollepoker
I've recently bought a new computer, the specs can be read in the dxdiag file. When I start the game the main menu shows up just fine. But when I click the "new game" button the loading screen pops up for about half a second after which I get the usual windows error message (Oblivion has stopped working) together with a black screen. I can play other games without problems (TF2, Mirrors Edge for example), this seems to only happen with Oblivion. Here's a list of mods I have installed at the moment (all sorted with BOSS): http://puu.sh/cP0 http://puu.sh/cP1 I have tried to launch the game without OBSE and with all addons other than the main Oblivion.esm file deactivated but the problem is still there. I have updated all my graphic drivers and etc (and this should really not be the problem, seeing how I can play a game like Mirrors Edge without problems). I have also tried removing all the files from the video folder and starting the game without them, but with no luck. Anyone knows what the problem might be? I've been trying to fix this since 2PM today (and the clock is now 8PM) but with no luck :<
Fonger
Here's a list of mods I have installed at the moment (all sorted with BOSS): http://puu.sh/cP0 http://puu.sh/cP1it would help to post your load order sorted by load order or as text actually from your BOSS report. But it seems that basic issues were not checked before heavily modding your game so we need to check the obvious 1 - did you machine ever run this game? It helps to check before modding 2 - did you install the game to the default location - this is a VERY VERY bad idea for Windows7/Vista

The two unsorted (HentaiMania2_Merged_Nightmare.esp and HM2SummonCompatible.esp) were placed under their main mod (HentaiMania2.esp) in the load order. I did not check if the computer ran the game before I modded, but I assumed it would. I have also tested with all mods deactivated (I made them all into .omod before installing them), so I think this happens even if I don't have any mods activated. I installed it to the default location... Is that the problem? I really can't see why that would effect anything... But if that is the problem would a reinstall into another folder help? ArmeniusLOD
You can reinstall if you want to, but you can avoid doing so by taking 15 seconds to do the following: navigate to your Oblivion folder, right-click on the Oblivion folder, click Properties, click the Security tab, click Edit, select Users from the top list box, check Full control in the bottom list box, and apply these settings. Make sure you have no files open from any folder in Oblivion or else it won't set the permissions properly.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention something that might be the problem: I have the game on a SSD disk. But that shouldn't really matter, right? Maybe I should try moving it to another hard drive? I run modded-Oblivion just fine installed to the default location on Vista x64. Anyway, installing to a SSD shouldn't be a problem, it will just generally run slower than on a platter drive because they are not as fast with random access. Instead of deleting the files from the Video folder, edit your .ini. Delete all the referenced files where it says SIntroSequence, otherwise the game will still look for those files when you start it. I would uninstall all of your mods, regenerate your .ini, and start the game in its vanilla state. If the game starts, run through the tutorial dungeon, exit the sewers, and make a save right outside. If everything is fine, then start reinstalling your mods one-at-a-time, running the game for a few minutes, and then making another save. Do this until either the game breaks, at which point you know which mod is causing the problem, or until it runs without a hitch. Oh yes, don't forget to rebuild your Bashed Patch each time. Jollepoker
The game still wouldn't run, even though I did everything you said (thanks for trying), so I made a new install onto another hard drive (I Installed only Oblivion and non of the expansions, DLC, mods or other stuff.). Something interesting happened: When I started the game and got to the main menu (not the main menu in the game, the one before that where you can choose which mods you want activated and etc) I got a pop up telling me Oblivion did not recognize my video drive. It does recognize my graphic card though, being a Radeon HD 5800 series. Furthermore, now the game cannot even reach the in-game main menu before it crashes in the same way it did before. I'm at a loss as to what to do now... I do have the latest drive for my card, so it's not like I can upgrade it to make it work. Anyone have any suggestions? Find the oblivion.ini in your user directory (near the directory where your saved games are) and delete it. Then try running Oblivion again to see if there is any change. Amazing! Thanks! I wonder what the problem in the .ini file was though... Still got the video hardware unrecognizable popup, maybe it had something to do with that? ArmeniusLOD
It's because this game was released four years ago that it doesn't recognize your hardware. The game just defaults to medium settings. Look here to find the presets for all the hardware settings. You should be fine using the Ultra High settings.
