Laezar
Introduction : Hi, I'm currently playing with this mod : http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50399/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D50399%26preview%3D&pUp=1 It is indeed a nice touch to the game that makes shrine a bit more interesting and works well with frostfall or RND. But I was thinking... can't we be more ambitious than that? What we would need is a shrine overhaul of the same level than mods like thunderchild, resplendent races or hunterborn which drastically improve some parts of the game that were fine but not FR**KIN' AWESOME. So I hope someone would be as interested as me in making this mod. I have myself no knowledge of modding but I think I can have enough good ideas about game design to be really usefull to the person who would like to developp such a mod. Now let's jump to the general idea of it : 1- Favor : The shrine shouldn't do anything. They are here only for you to pray. What would grant you help from the divine would be the gods themselves. And it would all start from this favor system. Praying at a shrine would grant you favor from the god. Doing things a god like would grant you favor from the god. Doing think the god dislike would lose you the favor of the god. The favor would be a variable that would be the core of the mod. Based on this variable the gods would grant you small or great benefits in your everyday life or would smite you if you displeased them. But the main way to please the divines (at least at low favor level) should be offerings. But not only giving gold to shrine and get favors. When activating an altar you should have either the praying option, or the "offering" option which would open allow to give offering to the gods. You can give anything, but not everything will please your god and some might anger it so you'd have to know well about it. You can also steal offering from the altar but that would lead to angerring the gods. Also, the more favor you have the harder it becomes to please the gods. 2- Divines interactions with mortals : Your relation with the gods shouldn't be "ok I prayed a bit, now bless me". You shouldn't expect instant benefit from your devotion, it's about a long term relation with your faith. The help of the gods could come in various form. There are 3 ways the divines could interact with your life : A) Aura of devotion Those devoted to a divine will gain benefits from it and it will influence their surrounding in their everyday life. When your favor reach a certain point you gain a permanent buff which isn't much but will grow in strength with your favor. B) Divine vision When sleeping the divine may send you visions. This would grant quest either to increase favor, or difficult quest that would get you great rewards. It can happen only if your favor are high enough. Also you have a chance to get your diseases clear once everyday if you sleep and divines grant you this favor. C) Divine blessing Upon certain circumstances you may gain the blessing of you god, these are a much more direct way to intervene in your life granting you short but powerfull effect depending on the divine. D) Divine intervention If your favor are extremely high divine can save you in critical situations (killing foes/removing your bounty/ resurecting you after a trap killed you). This shouldn't be a reliable way to get saved though. 3- Amulets : Wearing the divine amulet will help showing your devotion, increasing chances of divine vision, blessing and intervention and making your aura of devotion stronger. Praying with an amulet equipped will increase the rate at which you gain favor greatly. 4 - Idea box : There might be a lot of things I didn't think about. I'll put here all ideas that will come in the comments so that they are easier to reach. Bear in mind they are only ideas and should only help getting the mod in the good direction I'll start with some ideas that aren't the core of the mod but could be interesting : - Doing the same thing for daedras, being able to built shrine to the daedras (and maybe building your own aedra shrine?) - Being able to join a temple or the vigilants of stendar and do quest for them (even having real questlines like guilds?) - Having npc pray at shrines (and not having any npc pray at any shrine preferably? Like battle-born wouldn't pray at a talos shrine) - Make some books about the divine to help you favor them in an immersive way. Conclusion : Anyway, I hope someone will be interested in this because I think this could lead to a great mod. Of course you can pick any idea you want, do whatever you like. If you ever need help, either for general design of the mod ("Do you think this idea is good?" and such) or for precise value design ("what should be the % of divine intervention" etc...) feel free to message me I'd like to get involved in the developement of the mod. I can also do help testing it of course ^.^ For non-modders, feel free to give ideas I'll gladly add them to the list of ideas, and give your feedbacks about the features you think are interesting, and what you think isn't. I mostly wrote all this 1 shot so there are probably a lot of bad things in it or poorly explained (also english isn't my native language so feel free to be a grammar nazi but if you could pm me about it instead of spamming the thread that would be nice of you =) ). Laezar
Seeing how fast threads sink in this forum I'll allow myself a little bump, I can't imagine this not being interesting for anyone right?
tx12001
I made a mod like that once, it had different effects depending on the character with things such as Race, past actions and so on all being considered when you go for a blessing, I may consider remaking it if I get the time. Laezar
That's interesting but what I suggest is kind of different, it's about not taking divine blessing as granted while giving an opportunity to play as a character entirely devoted to the pantheon, or simply having your everyday life being pushed slightly in the good direction simply by not offending them.
