vergilfairlock
Hello my fellow citizens of Oblivion, I have another question for all of you followers of the Dark Brotherhood. This situation involves a character with one-hundred percent chameleon via enchanted clothing and jewelery. When I was going after Scar-Tail, I was completely invisible, but something occurred that completely prevented me from killing him. I struck him with a simple elven dagger, and he ran in fear. This is different comparatively to what ever other character in the game does, which is try to engage me in combat. Scar-Tail continues to run away so far to the point where he is off the map. I try to pursue him, but of course the displays that horrible message saying that I must turn back. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or something similar to it? If you respond, you will receive brain pie. Thanks, V.F. Shadow hide you
Hickory
Whether an NPC or creature stands and fights depends upon their confidence. A character with high confidence will likely stand and fight, but the lower a character's confidence is, the more likely he/she is to turn tail and run for it. Scar Tail obviously has very low confidence, and is possibly even scripted to run, and continue to run -- I think I've only ever done that quest once. Ferryt
What Hickory said may well be right, although I'm not in a situation where I can load up the CS and check it out. You do know, don't you, that you don't have to kill Scar-Tail to complete this mission? Choose to speak with him and you'll be given a choice to let him live, and you can then trick Teinaava into believing he's dead. I've done the DB quest line twice, the first time just assassinating my marks with no muss, no fuss, and no warning, just like any good little assassin should do. The second time around I started engaging them in dialog, first. You'll discover some interesting things if you do that. However, running just doesn't make sense, judging from the dialog which he will have with the PC if you choose to talk to him rather than kill him outright. I've killed Scar-Tail, once, but did it in one shot, so I've never seen him try to run away.
vergilfairlock
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input. If you guys come across any other instances which I described, let me know. Also as I promised, here is your brain pie. Shadow Hide You.
Ferryt
You're welcome, and I'll throw a hint your way, just in case our straying Argonian hasn't returned. There's a dead Argonian assassin nearby, assuming his body hasn't disappeared by now in your game. The corpse has a heart. Teinaava wants an Argonian heart to complete the mission she sent you to perform. Here's another hint. While I don't consider 100% Chameleon to be cheating like some folks do (after all there are legitimate ways of achieving this in-game), it really does spoil a lot of the fun of playing Oblivion. :) I play mostly stealth-based characters. I've literally hidden in plain sight (although I'll admit I was in shadow at the time) of an enemy and he didn't see me even though he was literally standing within arm's reach. I wasn't using Chameleon or Invisibility -- just Sneak. Work on that skill and it can do wonders for you.
HarryM1986
don't forget to get to spend allot of time building your alchemy skill, And take time to learn some interesting potions/poisons. You can even make 5+ effect poisons if you put thought into it. Also try to memorize where certain ingredients grow in relation to the ingredients you need for stuff u make regularly, as a stealth based character, Alchemy can be by far your strongest edge.
