New Computer For Xmas!

Recommended Posts

This is the best news EVAH! I am getting a new PC for Xmas - actually won't get it till the first week of January.

Here are the stats:

Intel Core i7 4790 CPU

16 GB DDR 3 Memory

240 GB SSD Drive

1 TB Standard Drive

780 GTX Video Card

DVD RW Drive

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

He upgraded the power supply from the original order, and I know he will install it - but he left it off the ticket so I can't write what it is - all I know is that it is better than the 3.3 Ghz one I had on the original order.

It only comes with a one year warranty on parts and labor, so I better be careful with it, lol.

Since I'm coming to this from an HP with an NVidia 8600 graphics card, I know it will be better than what I had - but don't know how it stacks up with today's PC's. Can anyone tell me if this system is ok? (I got a matching one for my son too, because he games online a lot).

That's a pretty-sweet PC.

Thank you so much, LHammonds. I am really so glad to hear that, because I really just let the store owner dictate what to put in it. He was much more knowledgeable than I was, so I just agreed with everything he said to do. Also, since I bought my son a matching one for his Xmas present - wanted to make sure it was decent. He plays a lot of online games that require a powerful setup. I really appreciate your input very much; I have a very high respect for your opinion and expertise in the field. Thank you!

you forgot the diskette drive

notice how OP completely ignored mentioning the PSU specs?

I did mention the PSU in a comment below the specs - and the only diskette drive I know of it having is mentioned too.

Like I said, I don't have any knowledge of these things so was relying on the salesman at the computer store to give me a good build. Since I was buying my son a matching one I really wanted to know if I had done okay by him - he is in college and games online with friends. Last PC I bought him turned out to be a piece of garbage, that's why I went to a custom builder this time. (and got myself one too, because my old PC could only play Morrowind and Oblivion at half graphics, and couldn't play any games newer than Oblivion).

 it was a joke.

i also noticed that you added a mention of the psu. good. it's a good setup. just be mindful of the SSD drive. those only last for around 500 days or so.

grats!

Thank you for helping. Geez, 500 days? Urk, that SSD was expensive! (but - technically, that is close to two years, and by then there is no telling how much more advanced the game requirements and hardware stats market might be - he might be ready to upgrade by then anyway.

I really appreciate the help, thank you!

My son has been playing on his for a few days now, I won't get mine for another week.
