Malchik
I have two questions, not exactly related but I can't be bothered to start two threads. First - what is the maximum number of Oblivion gates you have closed before getting bored and finishing the quest? (Anyone who says they have done them all I'd like to see proof!) Second - what is your strategy? Mine is a) do them at as low a level as possible and b) simply run like hell to get to the sigil stone and try to avoid conflict where possible. (On the one occasion I played at a high level I used 100% chameleon to get past the monsters.)
CJD
well for #1: I did the all the gates around the cities and the, gates u need to close to move on the main quest. for #2: I dont care about lvls. but i use the same grab-and-run tactic as u. Vagrant0
I started out going through and completely clearing them. It was entertaining for about the first 8 or 9 gates (making their armor lootable/wearable helped I guess). Then I started getting bored, learned how to adjust jump/fall settings, gave myself the ability to jump over lava, made it a point to just get to the tower as fast as I could, then clean out the tower. That got boring after about the 15 or 16th one. I think I got to around 20 or so within a single game. Counting all games, probably closer to 40, I started cheating more. Lately I have been doing mostly debug work on a mod, so gates aren't even active yet. I think their main flaw is that they really don't offer anything beyond a few ingrediants, some cash, and a sigil stone. If you don't do alchemy, have enough money, and don't do enchanting, there really isn't much point to them other than clearing the sky.
thursti
I think they're boring cuz they're all the same... run, fight 5-6 daedra, get the sigil stone, yay! What we need is something more challenging. Tons more daedra, or a chance of higher leveled beasts (not as in lvl 49 or smthing... As in daedroth or atronarchs)
sleaaels
I did it the old fashion way and fought my way to the sigil stones; however, after the 5th one, i got bored and only closed the essentials gates for the main quest.I kinda wish I had a few gates open, just to give me the option of entering it again, even if i don't ever step foot into a gate. thursti
I think there are some random ones around the landscape.

cactoblasta
I found them far too boring to be worth spending time closing. Fighting enemies is one of my least favourite parts of Oblivion so I'm not too keen to pursue it further through the portals.
Chemix
I didn't bother really attacking or fighting anything, just did the quest gates running with all hell or rather Oblivion behind me and snatching the sigil stone. If daedra's dropped their armor then it might be worth it, but it's similar just to seek out the shrine of Boethia and kill the draeda fighter and take his armor. It's rediculously heavy compared to the others (for 2 defence points more it's 20 burded points higher, but it's livable with some modding that brings back the spirit of looting by allowing you to carry an extra suit of armor and a few more weapons, otherwise it'd be quite impossible to really loot the armor since it would take up well over half your space and if you stock up on poitions it'd be out of the question
m3lisk
Me being an assassin sneaks in, picks 'em off 1 by 1, then grabs the stone. Pretty simple work. I haven't done any since the first one, I'm doing side quests right now, and yea, you do find random ones, there was one right in front of the inn of ill omen, literally on their front lawn. rofl...
