Fallout 3 works very well with Win7. Both the x86 (32 bit) and x64 (64 bit) versions as millions of users can attest.

As the game was designed around WinXP, The UAC that was first introduced in Vista can be a problem - but ONLY if the game is Modded and installed in the default location which is protected by the UAC. The vanilla (unmodded) game should work fine even in the default location

If you install the game (and any other game that can be modded) outside of the Program files folders it will not have that problem. The key here is INSTALL. moving the game does not change some important entries in the Windows registry that tell one part of the game where to find other parts.

To reinstall, you MUST first uninstall it completely. Then reinstall in the new location. Be sure to test it with no mods before installing any mods. The save game folder can be left as it's location does not need to be changed - it's already out of the clutches of UAC - and the new location should be able to use the old saves. I recommend installing to C:\Games\Fallout 3

Note that if you have the steam version, you MUST first reinstall the steam client to C:\Games\Steam. then reinstall the game from steam.

If you have any other version, let us know as the instructions may be different.

Right I have uninstalled it and even reinstalled it in a different place which didn't work and then I tried installing it into the program files and it still wouldn't play and I have no mods downloaded.

I have the GOTY version (PC DVD) dunno if that helps.
