Mythic Dawn NPCs

Cpt. Burd is who Jauffre tells u to talk to, and this is kinda spoilerish.

No, Burd is Captain of the Bruma Guard. Jauffre also mentions a member of the Blades who spotted a spy eyballing Cloud Ruler. You don't have to speak with the Blades member (you can also go directly to Burd), but if you do Jearl will be at the location described, which will be marked on the map.

He mentions Captain Steffan and also says Burd might know something IIRC. But you needn't talk to either of them. You can get from Olav in Tap and Tack that someone is (hiding) in Jearl's house. Several ways to get the info here. Talking to Burd is supposed to give you legal access to breaking into Jearl's house if you need to pick the lock. Talking to Steffan will alert you to the attack point that I had not mentioned. I will update my list to show it.

I have not come across Hans Blacknail although I saw reference to him in the CS. It is hard to see the point in having characters like that who you are unlikely to meet. The same applies to the two inside the apparently permanently locked house of Riverview in Cheydinhal.

Interesting one of you met Ranaline outside. Could it also be true with the two in Cheydinhal? Anyone met them outside yet?

Hans Black-Nail works for Bravil castle smith. I was really surprised when i saw that guy there because he looked really normal and all...Then i went to his apartment... 2 Mythic Dawn books :( i was forced to slaughter him in his sleep.

The Dark Elf chicks in Cheydinhal do leave the house, as all the work staff of Riverview does, on Sundas. I noted two appearances of the women— roaming outside Riverview at 10:00 am on Sundas morning, and midnight Sundas or early morning Morndas as the staff came out of the Newlands Lodge.

From checking the TES CK, there is a Wood Elf male who is in Mythic Dawn and the Fighters Guild :X

Name starts with a C

Cingorn. He's listed in the initial post.

Odd thing, though. In my first incarnation that advanced that far into the Main Quest, I could swear my character walked past the guy in Leyawiin and he didn't go all Dawn-ey on me. At that point in the game I was drawing my sword every time someone came around a corner, just waiting for a surprise attack. This guy, the Leyawiin Neighborhood Watch fellow, didn't bite.

It is true that Cingorn does not always attack. In fact in all the games I started and took to that level he only attacked me once. It may be if you speak to him earlier and raise his disposition high enough he lets you alone. I even broke into his house and read the MD books in front of him. He still didn't attack. Indeed last time I saw him he said 'Master, do you need me?' Hmmm! (I have just obtained the Great Whizzbang Stone).

In this game however Hans Blacknail attacked me in the Bravil Mages Guild. I had come from the castle, though not his rooms, so he may have followed me. It does suggest from other comments that all of these MD NPCs MAY find you. It is just specific sets of circumstances apply. When the MD is destroyed of course they revert to being normal citizens and will not attempt to kill you. Killing them then becomes murder.

Cingorn has never attacked me on any of the 5 characters I have.

If any of those were in the fighter's guild, be glad. Killing him (self-defense or not) will get you suspended by the fighter's guild. Unless you use the unofficial oblivion patch...

I'm at the preliminary stage of this discovery, but I've found a way to induce these NPCs to attack well before they're supposed to.

Most other NPCs, when you their Disposition down to 0, will simply snarl at you and say something mean when you pass by. My latest character has made it a habit to manipulate NPCs' disposition to her to better suit the role-play (all Cheydinhal's Guards love her, while the court mage hates her guts, etc).

While my character was in Anvil, she decided to make all the sailors there hate her. She started with Isolde, of all people, and as soon as I got her disposition to 0 and ended the conversation, the Redguard drew her weapon and attacked!

At this point in the Main Quest, my character had yet to recover MD Commentaries Vol. 3, much less made it to the "Allies for Bruma" stage of the story.
