Having Troubles Make a Leveled Item

Hello Gang,

I am confused as to how I can take an item and make a leveled item out of it. I looked on the CS Site but when I followed those directions, the item in game would not level.

This is what I did....

- Copied an item 4 times giving me 5 total copies of the item

- Made each one progressivly better

- Made a new leveled Item and dragged each of the 5 into the leveled one.

- Then I put this leveled item on a merchant.

- I logged in on a lvl 2 toon and the stats reflected correctly.

- Then I logged in on a lvl 6 toon and the stats still showed as being the 1-4 item for sale not the 5-9

Could someone please give me a step by step on how to do this if I did it wrong. I want to make the armor in Growlf Hot Clothes & Armor leveled. This way its more affordable for new toons and not worthless for a lvl 40.

The way leveled item lists work is that they just make higher ones possible, not make the lower ones impossible... If that makes any sense. Just because you have a level 6 character doesn't mean the lower stuff won't show up. You could have a level 20 character and still see the lower stuff show up. The only difference is that the larger the list of available stuff is, the less chance the lower stuff will show up.

What you might want to try is making 2-3 entries for later items with the same level range so that it increases the chances that those items will be available. You can of course test all this in the CS, so you don't need to keep starting up the game to see the effects.

Talking about things like certain standard magic items? That automatically level up if you have them? Those are controlled through a script somewhere.

There's a mod "leveling quest rewards" that does this too I think. This is probably what you already have installed, and aren't even aware of it.

Leveled lists control what spawns, not how equipment is upgraded.

ok ... so I wanna make a leveled item from an item in another mod...

Do I have to open that mod as active in the CS and make copies of it making it progressivly better? Then attach a script to each one that checks the players level each time they zone and makes sure they have have the best item for their level?

If so, then Im out of luck ... :( scripting is not my strongsuit. :(

I would imagine the easiest way would be first, get permission from those that made said mod to use their meshes/ect. then make the item from scratch in your mod allowing for the different ranges. Then look at that "leveled quest awards" mod on how to setup the script to update everything. It can really only be done in this way because of the form ID problems involving loading two mods. This is why it is best to do all your own work on this sort of stuff since everything you would need is contained in that 1 mod, rather than forcing someone to go tracking down 4 to 5 other mods just to use yours. The form ID is great to allow larger mods without conflicts, but sucks any time you want to change minor stuff added by another mod.

You should probably credit the person who wrote that script too as the only thing you would need to do is copy the script under a new name, and apply it in a way to work with your mod.
