Thieves guild stuff

No. Indeed after they got it back I stole it again to get the fenced amount higher. It becomes yours at the end anyway when it's no use. (Unless you are a staff using character of course.)

You can steal from the Mages' Guild, even when you're in the Guild— you just have to avoid getting caught.

Killing is another thing. Anyone and everyone knows if you take down a Mages' Guild member, even if it's an accidental one-hit kill of your Apprentice escort in a firefight on a lonely road far from the city.

That's dumb. But, if you're Arch-Mage, you can get that staff w/o having to steal it, I bet.

Storywise, even if you're the head Nerd of Nerd University, you have to maintain the pretense of the staff's theft to complete the mission set out for the Thieves' Guild. Which means nobody in the Mages' Guild knows that the dude who stole from you was— you.

Well, technically, it's not really stealing. If it were, you would have that red hand icon on it. Oh, yeah, you really hate mages, don't you?

Yep, you can. My first go at it, I did the MG questline first, then the TG...I waltzed right into the University tower, took the staff, walked right out the front door. The only part that required even the slightest effort was timing entry into the dude's house to return the thing.

You would think, though, that *being* the arch-mage you would be able to talk to some people and have the stand-down arranged without having to pull the heist at all.

One guy (Arch-Mage of the University) lodging the complaint may not be enough. But the Primate of the Temple of the One and the Imperial Watch Commander would add weight— hence the multiple jobs.

Would seem weird to have three heists in the City and then have one mage complaining about a heist that didn't happen in the University.
