Upgrading To The Shivering Isles - Backing up files

Hello,

 

I'm considering installing The Shivering Isles. I figured since a few good mods need it, why not? However, I want to transition over as safely as possible. I was thinking I could just back up the Oblivion files so if something went wrong, I'd have something to fall back on. Would backing up my "Oblivion" and "Oblivion Mods" folder be sufficient? After experiencing some really serious issues due to installing a lot of mods I make it a point to back up my entire Data folder and my saved games before installing any mod that actually alters (i.e. overwrites) any existing data, and I also have a backup of a pure Vanilla install with only the unofficial patches and official plugins. While I seriously doubt you'll run into any difficulty by installing SI, it doesn't hurt to be cautious. To my knowledge, and I may be wrong, I think the entirety of Shivering Isles is contained in its .esp and .bsa files and that it doesn't overwrite any data files. I don't have access to a computer which has Oblivion installed on it right now, so I can't check, but I'm reasonably certain that's the case.

Ferryt is correct, there will (should) be no issue with installing SI (as all it's resources are in BSA files), provided that you re-run BOSS and rebuild your Bashed Patch afterwartds. The only thing you should be aware of is that your oblivion.ini should be backed up, because some larger mods alter the SArchiveList= entry, and that may need to be restored afterwards.
