PerMa causing CTDs?

Recently, I downloaded PerMa. I checked every single mod I have installed and downloaded all necessary patches I could find. I also downloaded Perma Compatibility and PaMa patches. Alongside its normal patch I inserted one mod (Magic of the Magna-Ge) into the blocklist, as per that mod's instructions. I ran the patcher (more heapspace, 32-bit & MO version) through Mod Organizer, created a "Patchus Maximus" mod from the resulting overwrite files, sorted with LOOT, rebuilt my Bashed Patch, sorted with LOOT again, and then ran the game from a clean save just after exiting Helgen Keep. I have found that my game is overall far more unstable and prone to CTDs than before I installed this mod, which I find strange because of all the necessary precautions I took. I am unsure of what the issue could possibly be. Does anyone perhaps have an idea as to what happened?

Hi,

Not sure , if the patcher finished then it should be correct for your load order...Just checking a few things...

Patchus Maximus is After the bashed batch?

Patchus Maximus in not a zero byte file? ( it has size..say ... 25 MB?)<<<that's the size of my patchus maximus..:)

The order i did things...

Installed 290 mods giving me roughly 235 ESP/M's

Ran LOOT (this gives me the starting Load order.)

Build a Bashed Patch (enabled). Since most if not all of the Dynamic patchers go after the bashed patch it is good to build first.

Run LOOT.

Run SUM (thru MO), for me it runs..DSR, AV and Patchus Maximus. (create separate mods for each).

Run LOOT.

Play.

IF any thing got moved above the Bashed patch i would have run it again, BUT LOOT places DSR, AV and Patchus Maximus after the bashed patch so no need. Now that the Load Order is settled...Start a New Game. Play thru the tutorial, everyone should know that like the back of their hand . IF anything is out of place or wrong during the tutorial you have a problem mod. Normally i would be the one saying disable all mods till out of the tutorial, but i keep reading that IF you can make it thru, you have a solid install.

My Game started and made it thru the tutorial with 235 mods. And its not a light list of mods. Besides Perma, there's : Frostfall, wet n cold, Convient Horses, IW, IA, And a full STEP + Extended. IN the 112 hours this save is now...level 40, and with Perma this is the most fun as a Sword yielding Mage i have ever had. SO far i have i think 6 crashes, normally they happen with lots of mage's spamming spells or the odd poof for no reason, i do get long sessions...4-8 hours at a time is normal.

I built this Load out slowly with SkyRe , I played with SkyRe installed with all my mods for over 9 months, rare crashes. When Perma came out i decided to swap out SkyRe for Perma and Started from scratch, Nuked everything. Checked every mod for an update before re-installing it. I know my mod setup works together, so i installed all, and started a new game.

TL;DR....make sure Patchus is after the bashed patch, is not a zero byte file, Test all mods thoroughly, Start a NEW Game.

Not sure , if the patcher finished then it should be correct for your load order...Just checking a few things...

Patchus Maximus is After the bashed batch?
Patchus Maximus in not a zero byte file? ( it has size..say ... 25 MB?)<<<that's the size of my patchus maximus.. :smile:

The order i did things...
Installed 290 mods giving me roughly 235 ESP/M's
Ran LOOT (this gives me the starting Load order.)
Build a Bashed Patch (enabled). Since most if not all of the Dynamic patchers go after the bashed patch it is good to build first.
Run LOOT.
Run SUM (thru MO), for me it runs..DSR, AV and Patchus Maximus. (create separate mods for each).
Run LOOT.
Play.

IF any thing got moved above the Bashed patch i would have run it again, BUT LOOT places DSR, AV and Patchus Maximus after the bashed patch so no need. Now that the Load Order is settled...Start a New Game. Play thru the tutorial, everyone should know that like the back of their hand . IF anything is out of place or wrong during the tutorial you have a problem mod. Normally i would be the one saying disable all mods till out of the tutorial, but i keep reading that IF you can make it thru, you have a solid install.

My Game started and made it thru the tutorial with 235 mods. And its not a light list of mods. Besides Perma, there's : Frostfall, wet n cold, Convient Horses, IW, IA, And a full STEP + Extended. IN the 112 hours this save is now...level 40, and with Perma this is the most fun as a Sword yielding Mage i have ever had. SO far i have i think 6 crashes, normally they happen with lots of mage's spamming spells or the odd poof for no reason, i do get long sessions...4-8 hours at a time is normal.

I built this Load out slowly with SkyRe , I played with SkyRe installed with all my mods for over 9 months, rare crashes. When Perma came out i decided to swap out SkyRe for Perma and Started from scratch, Nuked everything. Checked every mod for an update before re-installing it. I know my mod setup works together, so i installed all, and started a new game.

TL;DR....make sure Patchus is after the bashed patch, is not a zero byte file, Test all mods thoroughly, Start a NEW Game.

I did indeed test each mod individually (sometimes in some small groups, such as testing Immersive Armors and Immersive Weapons at the same time) while setting up my bunch of mods in the first place. The biggest group of mods I attempted to use at once was Deadly Dragons, DCO, Dragon Soul Relinquishment, Wyrmstooth, Dovahkriid, and Thunderchild, all of which required clearing a few quests to test so I grouped them together for the sake of time (and also I got the instant thumbs up on all but Dovahkriid by an experienced modder). While doing that test, I had one game crash... which, typing this out now, may have been a bad sign. Regardless, I nabbed Weapons and Armor Fixes Remade and activated it at the same time as PerMa et al. because it was a requirement for PerMa compatibility and PaMa patches for some reason or another. Other than these two specfiic incidents, I had a couple crashes earlier in testing, but that was from setting my graphics way higher than my PC could handle and then having another mod that every so often will spawn a group of enemies for you to defeat rolling the dice and landing on a 9x multiplier for the number of hostiles.

Anyway, your tutorial approach could work, but there's an inherent problem with that as well. Said issue being that among the mods I have installed are Deadly Dragons, Dragon Combat Overhaul (actually don't know what effect those would have on the tutorial, but it very well could glitch out Alduin), and Helgen Reborn (which the author warns will completely mess up the intro if installed before leaving Helgen Keep). I also checked and indeed, Patchus is after the bashed patch and it's got an actual filesize (although, it's slightly larger than yours, which I find strange since you've 235 ESPs and I've only 129).

The order i did things...
Installed 290 mods giving me roughly 235 ESP/M's
Ran LOOT (this gives me the starting Load order.)
Build a Bashed Patch (enabled). Since most if not all of the Dynamic patchers go after the bashed patch it is good to build first.
Run LOOT.
Run SUM (thru MO), for me it runs..DSR, AV and Patchus Maximus. (create separate mods for each).
Run LOOT.
Play.

IF any thing got moved above the Bashed patch i would have run it again, BUT LOOT places DSR, AV and Patchus Maximus after the bashed patch so no need. Now that the Load Order is settled...Start a New Game. Play thru the tutorial, everyone should know that like the back of their hand . IF anything is out of place or wrong during the tutorial you have a problem mod. Normally i would be the one saying disable all mods till out of the tutorial, but i keep reading that IF you can make it thru, you have a solid install.

My Game started and made it thru the tutorial with 235 mods. And its not a light list of mods. Besides Perma, there's : Frostfall, wet n cold, Convient Horses, IW, IA, And a full STEP + Extended. IN the 112 hours this save is now...level 40, and with Perma this is the most fun as a Sword yielding Mage i have ever had. SO far i have i think 6 crashes, normally they happen with lots of mage's spamming spells or the odd poof for no reason, i do get long sessions...4-8 hours at a time is normal.

I built this Load out slowly with SkyRe , I played with SkyRe installed with all my mods for over 9 months, rare crashes. When Perma came out i decided to swap out SkyRe for Perma and Started from scratch, Nuked everything. Checked every mod for an update before re-installing it. I know my mod setup works together, so i installed all, and started a new game.

TL;DR....make sure Patchus is after the bashed patch, is not a zero byte file, Test all mods thoroughly, Start a NEW Game.

Wait! Found something potentially important. I was looking through my load order in the hopes of finding whatever the issue is, and discovered that a few of the patches placed by PerMa Compatibility and PaMa patches were placed before some or all of the PerMa modules. That something I should change?

Then only thing i added that had to do with Perma , that i hand placed was the patch to remove weight from gold, everything else i let LOOT handle.

Post your Load Order.

One other thing....when you loaded the Save outside the starter cave , did you have all plugins enabled at once? Or did you ....Load with a few active, save, exit. Load a few more, save, exit. Wait for MCM menus and Scripts to fire, after the last mod is enabled build the Bashed patch, and Perma patches? This was my old and trusted method since the days of Morrowind.

I still have my "fresh out the cave" save in case starting the way i did with all mods active, did not work out in the long run. So far i am happy , at Level 40 and no Quests glitching , some of the main, half of Dawnguard done, half of Mages, Most of Dragonborn..(if that ass steals one more soul..), have yet to start , Dark B, Thieves & Companions. Have done a crap ton of side stuff also, sometimes have more fun doing that stuff. With about 1/4 of the perk trees filled in the game is really changing. Can finally craft some great stuff...lol.

No, yes, and no... that could be a problem, hmm?

Anyway, I can't figure out how to copy/paste my load order and I'd rather not manually type the whole thing out, but I did do some more searching and compared it to yours, and I have one compatibility patch above PerMa's Master file. You do not.

I also have a fairly important series of questions, that for some reason I didn't ask before even though it's super-important. I currently am using a $1000 laptop that is around two years old. It's pretty damn good if you ask me (it can run Borderlands 2 with almost everything maxed), and it could run Skyrim quite capably as well. However, when I removed and redownloaded Skyrim to a different drive partway through modding (I also reinstalled EVERY mod) it autoset my graphics to low. I find this strange because before, it set my graphics way higher than that automatically, and also when using a program called GForce Experience (came with the PC, can autoset your game's graphics for you based on your specs) it maxes Skyrim's graphics. At first, I thought it was because my drive was perhaps connected with a 2.0 port and therefore couldn't process the information capably, but (1) I moved it back to my old drive and the problem persisted and (2) I later found out that it is a 3.0 port, rendering that possibility moot entirely. So, what the hell is going on there? Is my computer beginning to die? And is it possible that my issues are simply centered around not having a powerful enough PC to handle modding?
