Jahu
I'm sick and tired of huge 'gamer friendly' download sites. From the likes of IGN to FilePlanet and every little piddly wannabe inbetween something has got to be done about the state game files are in. With the ease of making mods for Oblivion it's probably hard to keep track of them all, let alone host them. Yet, whenever you find a small mod that does something you want, chances are the author of said mod is lazy or too stupid to host the file on his own webspace, so he whores it out to one of the gamer-hating giants like IGN or FilePlanet. The bombardment of advertisements, clutter of stupid images, and over all useless fluff that adorn these sites isn't so bad. Whats bad is they WANT MONEY TO DOWNLOAD FILES. What happened here? I remember FREE file hosting for games like Fallout and Duke Nukem, but now I'm required to subscribe a monthly fee to download ONE file? I'm only going to need this one file this one time, so six bucks a month is out of the question. Why should I have to pay these jerks for hosting if the author of the mod I want didn't make it to get paid, and certainly isn't getting any of the money his mod is generating the websites. Long rant short, F Fileplanet and IGN and the like. I want my small files and mods for FREE and you people have no right charging me money for them. Sorry to break your bubble, but you can download from Fileplanet for free! Once you click on the download link, you will be sent to theyr servers right, you will see things like Dont wait download now blah blah blah. Thatss where you have to pay. Now scroll down to the buttom of the page. There will be 2 or 3 FREE servers. You might have to wait in a line but all the mods I donwloaded from planetelderscrools I never had to wait. Plus the download speed I get there is like 200-300 kb/sec, while on TES I get stuff like 30 kb/sec. Remember! Scroll down the page where you chose the server download. As for IGN I have no clue if they got free servers. Hope you can download that One file ^_^.
Wrath_Of_Deadguy
The bombardment of advertisements, clutter of stupid images, and over all useless fluff that adorn these sites isn't so bad. Whats bad is they WANT MONEY TO DOWNLOAD FILES. I had one of the premium accounts back before Fileplanet went pay, then one day- out of the blue, with no warning or notification, I get an email stating that my account was cancelled because I failed to pay my membership fee or somesuch. The service used to be a free-access system where all you had to do for a premium account was register (all files could be accessed by non-registered users). Literally overnight, they switched to a pay service for premium and required registration for all file downloads- and didn't even send out notifications to people who already had premium memberships. Not that I would have paid anyway if they had made some effort to notify me, but having my membership status downgraded with no reason given and no advance notification was a bit more than I was willing to swallow. So, yeah, you're in good company. I don't use FP unless it is the only way to get a particular file.
m3lisk
and dude, have you heard of filefront.com? they rock, registration is free, downloads are fast, and it is easy to navigate... go there, and you will cease to be annoyed, i was.
Switch
As Tiberiu says, Fileplanet is actually free if you want it to be, they just don't want you to think that. And it seems they're largely successful in that regard. :P TESSource is completely free as well. It's just so popular (probably because of the above misconception) that download speeds can take a hit.
sleaaels
It may just be me, but i find more mods. on this site then on any other site. Anyways i would't pay for mod downloads, unless its really something...which i have yet to see.

Povuholo
...The author of said mod is lazy or too stupid to host the file on his own webspaceWhat on earth are you blathering on about? It looks like he expects every modder to make his own website to host his own mod there, so we don't have to use fileplanet. Right :glare:
Marxist ßastard
Yes, I figured that much, but does he want every Oblivion modder out there to run an HTTPd on their home machine, or what?
