Game crashes on saves after leveling up

I have the old "game crashes on saves" problem and I've narrowed it down to unable to save after leveling up from level 5 to level 6. I can save fine anytime before I level up, and I can save AFTER leveling up to lvl 6 also, BUT if I exit the game and come back later I'm unable to save anything. If I go back to and earlier save, one BEFORE I leveled up to 6, I can save. If I continue a game from AFTER I leveled up anytime I try to save it crashes. I have turned off all automatic saves, well before starting a new game, and I ONLY save by hitting the esc button and saving from the main menu, I never use quick save, save on wait, save on sleep, or save on fast travel.

 

I have also used FOMM and FO3Edit, and I have created a merged patch that I have edited for conflict resolution so that all of my mods are supposed to "play nice" with each other and so far they have. up until level 6. I have also had my character "commit suicide", wait in a interior space for 3 to 4 days, and both together to no avail.

 

has any one else had this problem and found a solution for it? Any suggestions?

Posting your load order would be good.

 

If your running the older FOOK2 (or the new one without the latest patches) it's a known bug.

I think FWE has a level up bug as well in their previous release.

 

If you use something like CASM and turn off all autosave you should have a better experience. I only use quick save and CASM and haven't had save issues for yonks...

Okay, I have quite similar problem. I was able to run Fallout from level 1 to almost 10. I just finished Big Trouble in Big Town and now everytime I save or fast travel, the game crashes. The first crashes began when I tried to finish Blood Ties. It crashed everytime I tried to get in the metro station where the Family was located. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

EDIT: I did some 'research' and created a new char and completed the Big Trouble in Big Town quest with no saving issues afterwards and were able to enter the metro station in Blood Ties with no crashes at all but everytime I load the other save and the save problems return. Quicksave, normal save causes crashing :P

Big trouble in Big Town is also where I'm having this issue. I don't know if it's this particular quest or not but it happens to be where I level up. I'm not using FOOK or FWE. I may give CASM a try. I'm currently at work ATM and will be here for the next month or so. Internet service is kinda spotty out here so I may not always have an opportunity to answer back.

 

I'm currently busy working on a new merged patch as time allows and I'll see if that resolves the issue. I'll also consider creating a new character and trying that. I'm not that far into the game.

However I am certain it happens after leveling up. I've saved just before and just after and it's the saves after leveling up that seems to be corrupted. With the excellent help I find here I should be able to correct this somehow.

Try updating or removing G4WL (Games for Windows Live). I use this after a fresh install: http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1086

 

You may also have a mod that's causing the problem so posting your load order is going to be a must.

 

TheArchDemon: Sounds like a corrupted save - try what I call the "Twilight Zone" fix (yes it does work and no I'm not smoking anything.. :-)

 

Effectively get your character to commit suicide

- restore the problem save

- remove any armor (so you die faster)

- throw some frags at your feet (so they blow you up)

- FO3 will restore your game at the original save point (you will not lose any items you already have)

- try to replicate the save problem now

 

Save games can get corrupted and when you try to save again FO3 CTD's. This 'fix' will drop some of the original save game information and 'cleans' the save profile. Not exactly sure of the techincal details but I do know it works.

Yep - that's a fair few mods there - I'd suggest cutting back some.

Although the limit is 255 the more you have the more chances of problems occuring like the one your seeing, espeically considering all of the masters your loading.

The chances of finding the actual mod causing the issue is pretty slim at the moment.

 

Chances are though it will be with one of the mods that have a "esm". As a master it's probably the only one that could cause a problem like your originally describing - "level up crash".

You could try killing yourself, and let the game automatically load the last saved game. It tends to fix some crashing problems, strangely.

So does using FO3Edit's masterupdate function.

That works too, but when FO3Edit isn't working, suicide sometimes helps.
