SirTrijj
I have the 7zip extractor but my Windows program (or the 7zip) wouldn't allow me to open a esp file in my Skyrim data folder. How do i open a esp?
QuickKeyzz
You don't open an esp file, just place it in the "DATA" folder of the game.
Druuler
If you just want the mod for use in your game, then you do what QuickKeyzz said. But, if you want to see how the mod was set up or make changes to it, you need the Creation Kit to open Skyrim .esp files.
bben46
7zip extracts compressed files - such as .zip, .rar and .7z. A compressed file is a way to put multiple files inside of a single file and shrink them down to a smaller size using computer programming tricks. Think about how much smaller a book would be if you took out all of the spaces between words and all of the extra space between other things. Then think about trying to read that book with no spaces between words. As for computer files, this compression makes them much smaller and easier to work with for things like downloading. When you use 7-zip to extract - you get the original files back and they will be full size again. - It puts the spaces back in the book. Inside these compressed files you may find the esp files (and some others also) - that is what you want - you do not want to open the esp. If you could it would look like garbled computer code anyway. 7-zip will not open a non compressed file such as an .esp as there is nothing compressed in it to extract. SirTrijj
Wow & nice work guys. I'd nvr thought that was how it was done. Yes, I was wanting to modify a particular esp but this stuff is way over my head. lol It's a good esp as is, so I'll just leave it alone. Thnx again.
