3ds Max, And Other Tools

There wasn't exactly a modding tools forum, so I put my request here.

Is there a place to get a free version of 3ds max, and other animation modding tools? I am new to animation modding, but would really like to start animation modding. So if any one can help me get started, I would appreciate it.

I just wish there was a way to make animations with TESconstruction set.

There is a free 30 day TRIAL version of 3dsmax that you can dl from their site- www.autodesk.com or from their affiliates.

However, after 30 days, its no longer free.

They also offer MAX which is a much older, stripped down version of 3dsmax which they no longer support, but do still offer on the site, for free.

Blender (www.blender.org) is also free.

TodaY is incorrect to assume that any free copy of a software is illegal. As well as the statement that its a torrent.

A torrent is only the method of transfer. Not all torrent files are illegal. Companies have been using this method to distribute their files out between their employees for several years now.

However, s/he is correct in stating that the discussion of pirated software hosted on torrents, or the discussion of illegally pirated material in general, is against the forum rules. And is bannable on the first offense.

I didn't mean illegally free, I ment free, nothing other than that. And if there isn't a free version than I will try something else. But thank you for telling me about the older version, I am going to try it! Thanks!

Blender is free and can be used for animations. It can be found on TESNexus.

3ds Max has a 30-day trial. If you are a current student with a .edu address, you can sign up for their student account and if approved, ALL of their programs are free for you to use with a 3-year license.

The old stripped-down version of 3ds Max that was mentioned earlier is called GMAX and can be found on TESNexus.

And since we do have such a forum, I will move this thread over there now.

Crossfire- not a problem, am glad to help out when I can. Unfortunately, I really dont know very much at all about actually doing 3d stuff, or the programs associated with them. Just that they are out there ;)

GMax is, like I said... free. It is no longer supported by autodesk, so they havent updated it since 3dsmax got so big. It still does a lot of the things that 3dsmax does, but it's not up to date. I really do hope that it's capable of handling your needs. But if not, you should try out blender. ;)

TodaY- It's ok. User awareness is a really big thing on my part. I work in the computer industry, so user awareness and education is something that I am just used to. I hope that I didnt come off as saying anything bad in your direction. I was just trying to make sure that the correct information was being presented ;)

LH- As always, much thanks! :)

how??.

Pretty-much everything you see in the unmodified Oblivion was created in 3ds Max. The process goes something like this:

1. Create a model

2. Create a UV Map

3. Attach a texture image with the UV Map

4. If the object is animated, attach an appropriate skeleton and skin / rig / weight-paint the model to the skeleton.

5. If the object is not animated, attach an appropriate collision model.

6. Export the model to NIF format

7. Use the Construction Set to add the new model and set the appropriate properties

8. Add the new object to the world via vendors, level lists or hand-placed in various parts of the world
