Thor.
ok this thread is to share your money secret's in Oblivion, how did you make your first 10,000, no cheating. Get rich quick schemes allowed, no mod's though.
Rhydderch Hael
There's always the ol' trick of raiding a farmer's crops and glutting the alchemy market with Restore Fatigue potions, but I suspect you don't want to hear something as obvious as that. My new Stealth-based character is facing this challenge as of this moment— trying to cough up the gold needed to buy the house in Cheydinhal (she needs to stay close to— family). 15,000 gold. No cheats, no mods. The quest with Glarthir in Skingrad will spit up 1,200 gold, no problem. Being an immoral assassin playing the quest concerning the Cheydinhal Guard Captain, my character is still trying to weigh the gold reward versus the sheer pleasure of taking the participants apart all by herself. The Arena is a slow but steady stream of income. Scavenging Light Armors from bandits and the like serve you well early on (easier to haul back to the market than Heavy Armor components). I'll drop weapons in favor of carrying more armor as loot. Silverware (forks, spoons, knives) deliver plenty of gold versus weight. Certain caves/mines carry Bandit/Maruder bosses who sport enchanted gear— that's always a quick way to cash.
Malchik
I haven't found a quicker way than alchemy as RH mentions. However if you start by looting Vilverin - the Ayleid ruin opposite where you escape from prison - you will get the Collector quest which gives a fair amount of money. Finding the merchant that gives best prices helps. For me it is the alchemist in Anvil. Of course initially you can only sell certain items but when Mercantile reaches 50 you can sell him anything. Doing the Count's quests in Leyawiin and finding Rockmilk cave will help in many things (increasing armorer and mercantile skills to name but two) and once you get 5 fame points The Order of the Virtuous blood pays 250 for each dead vampire (after doing that quest). My 5 penny worth.
Thor.
keep them coming, more the better, raiding farms is fun but it takes a long time to make 10,000 though. so what shop keep has the most money, anyone.. other then anvil.
Rhydderch Hael
...so what shop keep has the most money, anyone..It's a fine line between the top limit a merchant is willing to buy items versus their skill level in Mercantile. You find an Apprentice merchant with an upper cap of 800 gold versus an Expert merchant with a cap of 1000 gold, you may find that awesome enchanted armor you're trying to loot will fetch a solid 800 with the Apprentice (where in a perfect world they would have paid 850 for it), but only bring 740 with the Expert. Daedric pieces would, of course, hit the 1200 ceiling on a Master merchant with no problem, but they show up at Level 20. Then again, if you have cash problems at Level 20, then you're really screwed up.
Birdcatmeow
well, i dont know if you count staling as cheating. If not, join the thieves guild, rob a rich guy, sell hes stuff, rob another rich guy, sell his stuff and so on...but this is clearly very cheap. So , if you enjoy the game to the max with mysterios forts and ayiled ruins, this is for you. Just travel your butt off and discover new places, come in and clear them. You will always find expensive armor and likely to find some enchanted too. i have earned my first 10,000 that way, and then some more , compared to only about 2,500 stealing. So my sggestion: tarvel! ;)
Tiberiu911
I always enter the arena right after I escape the prison. I ussually get about 5 levels and and once I become grand champion, I get out with about 5400 gold. I also rob the betting chest +500 gold, and do the weekly fights. After this I dont make much cash until I hit about lvl 15, when stuff like elven drops, which I sell, and hit 10k with ease.

thursti
The bandit/raider trick works. Certain quests allow you to sell off alchemical ingredients for a lot of buck. Arena always helps. Stealing from people. Killing guards and taking their silver longswords help. Raiding caves and all will also help.
sleaaels
The Rockmill Cave between Leyawinn and bravil; one trip will definately net you over 15k (of course it depends on what level you are), if you don't have much carrying capacity be prepared to make a couple of trips back and forth.I don't really steal because its not worth it.
