Hawk7777
I have a few followers that I would like to marry. Is it possible to marry them all without a mod? Or do you need a mod for it? I only have the main game. None of the downloadable expansions. (if that has any relevance) Thanks Edited January 7, 2015 by Hawk7777
Oubliette
You'd need a multiple marriage mod for that.
Hawk7777
I figured. I have found two that state that multiple marriages are possible. Multiple Marriages-Spouse Dress Up-Rehousing-And More But I THINK that one requires Dawnguard if I am reading it correctly. And.... Marriage Mod - To Have And To Hold That second one might work. But someone said uninstalling it crashes their game.... Any suggestions?
saurusmaximus
I've used To Have and to Hold in the past and generally, it works fine. You will sometimes run into issues with the Aspect of Mara not working if you use any kind of lighting overhaul, but it's hit-or-miss. In regards to crashing your game, it uses a lot of scripts but as long as you don't uninstall it mid-game, it's fine; which is good advice for ANY mod really. When you say "uninstall" does deactivating it in NMM count? Like what if it (for whatever reason) slows down or messes up my game or something...? So is deactivating it (to presumably swithc to a different multiple marriage mod) the same as uninstalling in that respect? Thanks
saurusmaximus
Unchecking it in your load order, or deactivating it, either way it won't be active in the game anymore. You want to avoid doing that as it will leave scripts behind that will cause you grief later on.
Hawk7777
So in other words, once you got it, your stuck with it (or risk your game), correct? In his video series, Gopher was saying you could activate and try out new mods and deactivate them if you don't like them. So I'm assuming the, by what you are saying, that is not true with certain mods. How does one know which ones are safe to try out and which ones you want to avoid or take permanently? saurusmaximus
Basically, any mod that modifies, or adds, a quest (getting married is technically a quest) modifies/adds scripts to the game. Sometimes, you can deactivate them without harm, but usually not; invariably, something gets left behind and it's not uncommon for that 'something' to wait until you are 10, 20 or more, hours farther into your game before it rears it's ugly little head. In this case, you are modifying the marriage quest, which modifies all sorts of things; the dialogue you get from your children, the dialogue you get from your spouse(s), your spouse's store, buffs when you sleep. Even if you divorce your spouse before uninstalling (which isn't possible in the vanilla game, and yet another script) you can see how much stuff can get jacked up if you suddenly pull the plug. My suggestion if you are unsure which to use, if any, is to get your game to where your are ready to get married without any marriage mods installed. Make a save just for this; I would suggest going into the console and doing something like "save marriagemod" (without the quotes of course). Then, enable one of them, get hitched and try it out. Don't do anything major in the game from this point, just focus on that. Get married again and make sure it works. If you like it, great, keep on playing. Otherwise, disable the mod, go back to the marriagemod save, and try the other one if you like. I realize this probably isn't your idea of fun gameplay, but it's the unfortunate reality of playing with Skyrim mods. Good luck!

I really appreciate it!Also I did know know about saving a game through console command. Good to know!!!You have been very helpful. I hope this site gets more helpful people on it such as yourself! There are a lot of mods I'd like to try out. So its good to know about the save trick. I have been using AFT but when the new UFO comes out, I want to switch to that because I want to be able to choose from more than 5 followers. (but probably wont actually have more than 4-5 actually following me at one time). But I am afraid if I do, it will cause problems uninstalling AFT. I've heard people talk about switching though, so I can always try the save trick and see how it goes. I am surprised they have not come up with a way to fix the script thing though. Anyway, thanks again!!!
saurusmaximus
Glad to help. I have switched follower mods before, it wasn't a totally smooth process, but it can be done. If you need help with that, feel free to PM me. As far as the scripting thing goes, my understanding is (I'm not a programmer, so this is all heresy for me) that Papyrus, Skyrim's scripting language, wasn't very well conceived and in the wrong hands can wreck havok with your game in the form of orphaned scripts and unresponsive quests.
