Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition Not Working

So I bought F3 GOYE after some major upgrades to my computer and didn't want to hassle with all the dlc's and whatnot, but I'm having even more trouble now! This is for PC by the way...

I Install Fallout 3 first disc and it USUALLY asks me to install the 2nd (DLC disc I'm assuming) on my old computer, but after Fallout 3 vanilla installs the computer say's it's done!

Then I manually install the 2nd disc and have to manually go into "my computer" and right click on the disc drive to get it to load up (no autoplay), install the files. Then I check the bethesda files and it seems like it's all there but when I leave Vault 101 I don't get prompts for the DLC's. I tried console hacking several items from DCL's, also with no luck.

Any Suggestions?

If your running Win7 one of the ways to install the DLC disk is to boot to safe mode, then install.

But what exactly do you mean "manual install" are you running the setup or copying the files across?

Also are you running any mods.

The UAC used in both Vista and Win7 doesn't get along with mods. It acts like they are installed, but then instead of putting it in the data folder it puts it into a hidden folder where the game cannot find it. It's possible that is what it's doing with your DLCs.

To keep UAC from making your life miserable, uninstall the game. Then reinstall it outside of the protected program files folder. Most people have been using C:\Games\Fallout3. Just moving the game may not work.

It's not uncommon to have a problem installing the second disk as in their infinite wisdom, Beth used a different protection scheme on the second disk causing a problem with Win7 on certain DVD drives. Installing the second disk in safe mode worked for me.

So I tried installing vanilla fallout 3 with "c:/games/fallout3" and I couldn't find any sign of it. I eventually found it and it didn't have any "run" function. The DLC's were in the file but the f3 stuff wasn't there (yes I installed it).

I know I've used this before when using XP with no problems. Is there a way to temporarily switch to xp within Windows 7?

I also tried installing on safe-mode. There are two other options for safe-mode (safe-mode with networking was the only one I remember).

Also, are there also any downloadable programs to control your DLC's? I remember having one a long time ago for when F3/dlc's came out on disc and I had to use the program to "check off" each DLC I wanted to use.

Also, your vague "start program, then click data files and make them checked off" is something I can't figure out to do. Can you explain this to me with a bit more detail?

In Windows 7, to install FO3 GOTY, do NOT use the auto installer. You MUST open the disk, right click setup and run as admin. This is a MUST. Then you HAVE to install the games for Windows Live, then you have to install the official 1.7 patch. These MUST also be installed as admin, so right click the setups and run as admin. Once those are installed in that order, you then need to open disk 2 and right click the DLC installer and run as admin. If you do not install using these steps, then good luck running FO3.

Edit:

Installing in safe mode is a load of hoopla. NEVER do it that way. It may work, but there is no need to do so.

Edit 2:

After you have installed the game as admin and are wanting to install mods, get FOMM and FOSE. Make sure you install FOMM as admin. Once installed right click the FOMM exe select properties, then click the Compatibility tab, click the box next Run as Administrator, click apply. Do this also for the FOSE launcher and you should then be able to Rock & Roll!

Start the game and on the Fallout Launcher, click "Data Files". Check off the boxes beside the name of each DLC's esm under there to activate the content in your game.

I did that but the Downloads part on the main menu is still not light up like the others are.

Ok so I have this issue with the Data files. I installed fallout, then i go and copy/paste the seperate dlc files from their folders into the same file as my game. I go to files, and only fallout 3.esm is there and checked. the DLCs aren't even available. What do i do?
