Zer0Suii
Hello everyone. First I'd like to apologize if this doesn't go here and/or if this was already asked. I bought a copy of Windows 7 Pro x64 for my wife and I used the same disc to get myself the free 30-day trial from it. Previously I was running Windows XP 32 bit. On XP everything regarding Oblivion worked with no problems. In Windows 7 64, I can't get any mods to work. I have CM Partners on, Ren's hair pack, a mod I made, and AKH Eyes. The only mod I can get the game to recognize is in use is the AKH eyes. Does anyone know what's wrong? I want to use Windows 7 64 bit so bad because it's working so well with my computer, but if I have to go back to XP, that'd be a shame, especially since XP was only pre-installed on my computer and I never had the disc and the disc is really hard to come by these days. I've already did the UAC thing and tried running it in XP mode. I installed it in the default directory first, read up that I shouldn't, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it in C:\Oblivion, still with no luck. If you guys know anything about this matter, all help is appreciated. Thanks.

ArktiskRaev
I'm not exactly sure if this falls under the same category, but my mods aren't working at all. I'm on Windows 7 if that makes a difference and I did everything the readme's told me to; I extracted the files from the download directly into Common/Oblivion/Data folder but when I go to Data Files on the launch menu I don't see anything new. Just the expansion stuff like Battlehorn, Frostcraig, Shivering Isles and all that. I've tried restarting the comp and redownloading and re-extracting the files to the folder but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. PS: I got the game through Steam, and it's not the only game that mods don't seem to want to work for. I have the same issue with Dawn of War mods, where they just dont show up even though I copied them into the right folders.
Eweyr
Whatever the problem is, I believe Windows 7 is not the cause. I'm currently using the same OS as Zer0Suii, Windows 7 Pro x64 and my Oblivion never crashes. You can stop worrying about the OS. You know, your post contains very little detail. Have you installed the patches needed for some mods to run?
thyris
Same as the general consensus here too, I have no problems with Windows 7 x64 aside from getting Wyre Bash to run and the 1st person camera glitch I've already posted about. Have you gotten all your updates? Video card driver, .net, vc++ 2005 and 2008, directx, etc...?

Brb, testing this right now. EDIT What "Common" folder? Either way, I put the mods in the Data Files folder and the mods show up on the list when I open Oblivion, they just don't do anything. @ Eweyr: I tried to install an update but when installing it said "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since the file contents do not match." @thyris: All the updates are in. I haven't downloaded the game via Steam or anything, I used the disc. The construction set loads all of the mods just fine, so I'm confused. Excalibuurr
You can try fully disabling UAC
bben46
My guess is being new to Win7, and skipping Vista - as I did also - you are not familiar with the curse of UAC. UAC, User Account Control, is a new (since Vista) extra layer of protection that MS has included. The purpose is to protect programs installed in the Program Files folders from being changed by virus attacks - And in reality protects against any changes to programs installed in the Program Files folders. And, Mods are changes! Best solution, Uninstall completely and reinstall outside of the Protected folders. I have been using C:\Games\Oblivion. And I use the C:\Games\gamename for installing all games. If you use Steam, you can reinstall the steam client outside also C:\Games\Steam then all steam games will be unaffected by the UAC also. UAC can be deactivated, but that leaves your files open to being changed by any virus that sneaks past your AntiVirus program - the first thing that happens is your AV will no longer work and you will not know it. You can also give special permission to the programs you do not want UAC to protect, but then you will be constantly giving that special permission to things relating to the game - Patches, OBMM, OBSE, Wrye Bash, Python, certain mods etc. I found it simpler to reinstall. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. And I also stated I didn't get this from Steam. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the fact that I'm getting support here, I just wonder if I'm misreporting some things. bben46
My mistake, I do so many of these sometimes I forget what the original problem was by the time I get through reading all of the other answers. Have you checked to be sure you have the latest patch? It's required for many mods.Do you use OBSE? It is also required for some mods. Not sure about yours. Are the mods showing up in your Oblivion\data folder? If not where are they?If you use OBMM are the esp files showing up? and are they checked off? Which install method are you using? Compatibility mode should not matter, I use Win7 x64 and do not use any compatibility mode for Oblivion. It works fine - more stable than my older WinXP set up.
