Chiramu
I wasn't talking about the game of WoW, I was merely giving an example a modder could look to to make something like this request possible. It takes a lot of time to make something like this FAIR. You can surely make it outrageously powerful, but who would play their character seriously if they had something like that. You need to use your brain to think about how to make it fair at all stages of gameplay. And it can be produced for Dragon Age and still keep everything fair and fun. YOU LOOK AT REFERENCES AND SEE HOW OTHER PEOPLE HAVE DONE IT. Now for me I tend to grow attached to some gear, that is why I want gear to stay relevant through the game. If you play a human noble you really want to use that family sword to chop of Arl Howes head when you meet him in his dungeon, and likewise that nice looking armour you downloaded should also stay relevant. People that make mod items usually do want them to be used through the game and currently do this by adding several versions, cluttering shop keepers inventory or just place an outrageously powerful item with no requirements. Alternatively, we have to wait ages before we can use the item. For example, in Jog's "Of Noble Cast" mod the family blade is silverite, that is good but it takes a while before one can use it, with self upgrading one could use it at once and it would grow with you instead. I can't speak for RB, but I wasn't trying to say that this kind of mod wasn't possible, or shouldn't be done, and I wasn't saying the game wouldn't be fun this way, (and perhaps even more so because it would be more the way a particular player likes things.) I'm saying that, in my opinion, it's using a cheat to make it so. Nothing wrong with that, (see the firsts posts by both RB and myself) this is a fantasy RPG, after all! Just like to be honest with myself about what I'm doing. There are powerful swords, (or armour, or staffs, or whatever) already in the game. Part of the game (as envisioned by the devs) was the finding/winning/NOT buying other things so as to save up enough to be able to buy those really great items. If my "Family Blade" is constantly self-improving as I go along, then what incentive is there for me to forego getting that sweet dagger and GM runes that Garrin sells at his stall outside the Deep Roads for my Rogue? Or to bother tracking down the pieces of Topsider's Honor then trekking BACK to the right location to re-make it? Writing my thoughts about the subject this way, I remembered the "Upgrade" Demon in NWN-HotU. How about this as a compromise approach to keeping one's favorite gear and still maintaining balance? Add the capability for somone like Mikal Dryden or Varathorn to "upgrade" exisiting items with rune slots (perhaps including armour) for a hefty fee. Then increase the availability of the more powerful runes. Your favorite gear remains relevant, but at the price of giving up something else you might otherwise have choosen. LillithMabon
The only auto upgrade I would like to see is the equipment that is character specific, like Sten's sword.
