lewisdude
Hey,The issue is that after starting oblivion, I get a 'not responding' and a crash.IF I set graphics to 'default', it gets half way through the 'bethesda softworks' logo before crashing. This is after I've started Obliv after a long time without playing (got nostalgic) when i had LOADS of mods installed.Uninstall/reinstall leads to same problem.Installing from TWO separate install disks (GOTY and standard) leads to same problem. Also after a manual registry clean where I deleted entries marked 'Oblivion' (a bad idea I know).I have two computers- one desktop, 5870, one laptop with VILE chipset graphics. Both running win7 ultimate, both with the exact same problem.Attempts to patch lead with a 'duplicate file found' error, even though no crack has been used. Also same error after Shiv Isles install.Modded version worked briefly before I decided to do a clean re-install, for yet another replay.Have attempted to install to both Prog Files + random documents location.'run as admin' 'run in compac for xp svpack3' have lead nowhere.Coming to you guys as I have exhausted all other options, quite frankly.Help? Hickory
Try adding Oblivion.exe to the exclusions list for DEP. Follow the method described in 'method 2' here.

bben46
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop. ~Lewis Carrol, Alice in Wonderland  In this case, the beginning is where you install the game. The best place is NOT the default location (unless you have Win XP) as that allows Vista and Win7 UAC to block mods and other programs.Recommended: C:\Games\Oblivion Before attempting to install - make sure there is no trace of your old game on the computer. Especially in the registry. - Use a good registry cleaner as sometimes manually searching can miss some obscure entry. Be sure to do all of your game removing before doing the registry cleaning. Then reboot the computer both before and right after running the registry cleaner. And be sure to delete any old Oblivion.ini in the C:\users\your user name\My documents\my games\oblivion folder If you need it, Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. lewisdude
Thanks for all your ideas- although I would like to note I already tried all of those- except one key point- I completely forgot about my saves folder. Turns out some mod fiddled with the oblivion.ini so starting the game up without mods caused a crash :P wiping it (after a backup) made the game work beautifully. Thanks for your help!
