OtakuHanzo
Hello. First off, I purchased the dvd. I did not download because I am limited with my provider to 200 megs a day. So, I went to install and it confirmed my code through Steam and then proceeded to download the game! Wtf? I know the files are on the dvd, but nothing I tried would install them. It kept starting to download it still. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm going to be absolutely pissed if it has to download. >:( Anyone who can help, I would appreciate it. I don't know Steam. First game I've tried messing with through them. Last one too if this is an indication of what to expect. :/
Uzibeatle
eek, that sounds bizzare. Did you try posting on the official game forums yet? Probably ahve better odds of finding some help from someone there for an issue like this. I'd be pissed too. Good luck.
Delusibeta
I wrote this guide yesterday for this kind of problem.
BooneoftheWasteland
MY GOD! I didn't know this. I'm capped by my service provider, anything over the monthly allowance I'm charged for. This behaviour MUST BE STOPPED, if this is true.
OtakuHanzo
MY GOD! I didn't know this. I'm capped by my service provider, anything over the monthly allowance I'm charged for. This behaviour MUST BE STOPPED, if this is true. That's my problem as well. I was finally able to get the game installed utilizing the guide Delusibeta wrote up. Thank you, btw. But now I have another problem with the fact that I hate Steam. It downloaded the patch without my knowledge and exceeded my d/l limit causing me to lose internet for that day. Then to further rub salt in the wound, I was unable to play New Vegas because Steam couldn't log in. WTF? I bought the game legally and now it's telling me when I can or cannot play it? Steam must die.
Mechwarrior94
i seem to have the same problem, just got my copy today. but mine as well installs only trough steam but not as "games for windows" version. Which was my intent to get so modding is a lot simpler. still didnt get it fixed and i REALLY hate working trough steam, and yes im pissed! OtakuHanzo
Well, at least they got auto/quick saves working again with the patch released this morning. But Bethesda really bit the sac on this one. Great game, but a shitty client to run it on. I've actually been able to avoid Steam until now. Even with Halflife 2, there was workarounds to avoid using Steam. I hope someone will devise a way to do it with this game as well.
BooneoftheWasteland
I'm able to play without internet as I just removed the usb cable. Not a hassle for me, the opposite, because that rig I play my games on is not connected to the internet, I had to stretch the cables to its limit just to install this game. BIG PAIN. I plead for games not to work this way in the future.

I tried it after disconnecting my internet and it wouldn't let me play. :( Also, another gripe I have is that twice now Steam was running but I would get the message "Sorry. This game is unavailable at the moment." How the hell is it unavailable when it's sitting in my disc drive, dammit!? A reboot handled it both times, but it's still a message I should NOT get. Well, at least saves finally work. :
slowone
I know this is yesterdays thread, I didnt want to start a new one with a similar question if thats ok? steam has been installing/downloading my game now for 7 hours, this is ridiculous, is it because loads of people will be doing the same thing? I understand the whys and wherefor's of having steam for updates/patches etc, Im just flabberghasted that its taking so long! its from a pcdvd.thanks for any help. Can I just say thanks to all who give their time making this site so good, I've loved using the info & mods for fallout3 & hope to have as much fun with FNV if I dont die of old age before it's installed lol.
