FALLOUT.ini, falloutprefs.ini always overwritten in Steam ver

I fooled around with setting up archiveinvalidatedinvalidated for FNV using the manual version found in the nexus fallout 3 section.

The game, or maybe steam not sure, is constantly overwriting both the ini's.

So this is going to make it a real problem for mods and texture paths unless someone can figure out a way around this.

The files in question are the ones in the user path under user/mydocuments/mygames/falloutNV

Anyone have a solution for this problem/?

THis is with the steam downloaded version of the game if that makes any difference. Game client itself is a sub dir under Steam/steamapps/common.

Hmm, maybe turn off the steam sync feature or say no to automatic updates? If there's no real way around this that would hinder modding I'd imagine.

Was worth a shot. Tried that but it didn't help. In addition to overwriting these files the game resets falloutprefs.ini to read only.

Each time I unflag it read only and edit in an editor then save then launch the game, the game overwrites both files.

SUrely there are advanced modders out there in the NExus community using the Steam downloaded client that know a way around this???

It can't just be me with this issue..its the game doing this.

So you did check them as read only right? I didn't quite understand that sentence.

Doh, you know I feel embarrassed now.

I didn't even think to REFLAG the fallout.ini as read only.

Now the game leaves it alone even after I edited it. Least so far.

Dur.

Problem solved.

Thanks for the idea. I need to slap myself.
