I dont know why they removed it. It was a clever way to feature the files. I would like to see this feature back. Its been long time since it was removed. Didnt even find the reason in the site news that time lol. as i said i didnt even notice they removed it so fast
avahzd
Speaking as someone who is not a public modder anymore, I look for mods that deepen and extend the games I play. Like someone alluded to earlier, a different looking Lydia is still a mule no matter how pretty. I have downloaded followers not just for their looks but utility or what they bring to the table in terms of gameplay (i.e. the ability to heal the PC). For example Techprince has created a number of beautiful ladies, but he also has given many of them a bit of AI that sets them apart from others. In fact I still have one of his that (she has been changed to a necromancer) was a vampire healer. He had some issues with her being buggy, but that uniqueness she once had has kept her in my play list (bugs and all). In fact I have saved her on a DVD so I don’t lose her. That being said I tend to list mods in 3 tiers. Tier one Mods: Unique quest, Locations, Overhauls, Voiced Followers with unique quests/skills (i.e. Mrissi)Tier two Mods: Unique weapons/armor, Minor quests, Giggly body parts, Followers with unique skills (i.e. Celestine)Tier three Mods: Eye Candy simple as that... Most mods on my list are Tier two mods as the Tier one mods often are unfinished or buggy with my personal set up. Some mods are very close to Tier One (i.e. Celestine) because they are a work in progress (looking at Techprince: still looking forward to her immersion!!!). Now to the point of what I said above and how it relates to the OP comment. My modding skills have waned as I have gotten into my 40s, but I can make a pretty face. I don’t because well I can make a pretty face. I want to be able to find mods that makes my game unique. It is hard to do that when you do a search and get 3000 plus hits. There are no real advanced search options. I have spent hours looking for something unique but the number of useless hits can be overwhelming. The top/latest files helps, but that tends to be short term only for new mods. If it was not for a YouTube vid, one of my favorites would still be in obscurity. Mrissi has been around for over a year and never got the attention it deserved. It took a youtuber to get her out and now there is a real team working on her and making her GREAT!!! (heh see what I did there!). There needs to be a better way to get past the great mods of the past and pull out those hidden gems. One of the biggest issues are many Tier One mods just burning the modder out and then they gives up. The KISS method is hard to do with all the scripting language and bug smashing that has to be done. I do not blame the modder, in fact I would love to see more mods attempting Tier one and giving up than no one trying at all, simply because some will make it to the top of the pile no matter... It’s those Tier two mods that I also enjoy that get lost in the heap of Tier three mods and overshadowed by the Tier One successes. Tier two mods have the potential to become Tier one mods with work and time, but because they get overlooked, the modders tend to give up on them. Tier two mods have the potential to become Tier one mods with work and time, but because they get overlooked, the modders tend to give up on them. I would say that what we need (untill Nexus staff changes display functions someday) is community initiative to create list similiar to GEMS, but updated weekly. The problem with nexus there's right now, is that each mod subcategory does not have it's own Hot Files Page and I haven't seen something like Hot Files Archive either. People are simply looking at mods on Hot Files that may not interest them at all at given point. If you for example just installed and patched Perkus Maximus, you won't be looking at any mods releated to skills and blacksmithing untill next playthrough. Or maybe you found your perfect Enb and tweaked it for weeks untill everything was just right, so there's no way you'll be changing it anytime soon. It would be great to open for example Misc category and find Hot Misc Files there. The front Hot Files page could be remade into slide show of Category Hot Files, showing only those categories which you marked yourself in user area. Just blocking content as right now is not a valid tool. We need a file list that does not push out mods every few hours. There is no point blaming people for liking something that looks pretty. They play the game for their enjoyment and they mod it for free for same reason. I've seen some criticism on nexus that was anything but constructive. When the mod works as advertised and does not break any rules, why should it be condenscendent? Usually those mods are pretty basic due to the authors skill limit. No one is able to make tier I or II mods without prior experience and time. And if someone still feels offended by lack of new releases of high quality mods, maybe he should contribute to uploaded files himself. Please don't read anything I have posted as criticise directed at anyone in particular. I'm just simply continuing discussion here, since I feel this topic for most part on previous pages was one sided and totaly overlooked the real issue with hot files. cdcooley
Why would you need hot files per category. Just browse the category! You can filter and sort by your own criteria instead of relying on what's been popular so far this week.
BlackRoseOfThorns
Why would you need hot files per category. Just browse the category! You can filter and sort by your own criteria instead of relying on what's been popular so far this week. The point is so mods in each category will have equal chance for display. You can browse latest files, but how many of them have low endorsement count due to not being exposed to target group? If mod receives not too many comments or endorsements, it's less likely to be tried by users with stable mod list at 200+ plugins. When there is no interest mod authors just move on to the next project instaed of polishing their previous work. Mods getting to Hot Files are always promising and most authors listen to requests and upload fixes, optional files or compatibility patches. techprince
I would still vote for bringing back the feature system in each category . Perhaps an improved version of it (frontpage slideshow incorporated into each category showing featured mods) Edited February 10, 2015 by techprince

MythicFrost
Well, I myself would like more realistic followers that do not look like dolls or anime caracters and I would rather also like more armors/cothing that have medieval or renaissance feel and proper bladed weapons from same eras. avallanche
As an user and not a mod creator I really wish some different system for the hot files. The most downloaded / voted mod is not always the most interesting. I would prefer if there was some kind of top modders consul to choose the hot files based on its own merits even if it means that i will never have a say on it. At least the mods there would have some meaning, some kind of certified quality in one way or another, not just this niche appeal.
