The Captial Wasteland in FONV

Morroblivion was jumped on by Bethesda because it took the assets from one of their games and put them in another, exactly what this is doing. Go and suggest this on Beths forums and see how long the thread lasts. It's not illegal but Bethesda really don't like people doing this sort of thing.

I THINK (not sure) that boosting content from one game and using it in another is illegal and violates the TOC inside the box cover. It is piracy, I believe. Or, at least that's how the suits with the lawyers and the money will see it.

Talking about how to move content from one area to another is a modder's perspective. And so long as they arent suggesting areas to get the content illegally is ok by the site rules. So as long as the discussion is about material that the person has legally obtained, then the discussion is alright FOR PERSONAL USE.

distributing a program that is capable of COPYING game material and then RECREATES that material.... VERY gray area. I'm going to leave it up to other members of the staff that have been here a lot longer than me to say how that would be handled.

BUT- as was mentioned before, if it's a violation of the manufacturer's Terms of Use, Terms of Service, WHATEVER they want to call it, then we wouldnt allow it here.

The site doesnt want the headache of dealing with legal issues from these companies, or getting mail or calls from their lawyers.

As long as you're not talking about making available material and content that needs to be purchased... IE... giving away something from another game that somebody has to pay for to obtain.... In other words, including that material in an uploaded file, or distributing that file, it's all good.

I'm not sure either, I doubt a court would be interested unless copyrighted materials were being distributed. Maybe things are different on that side of the Atlantic?

I just read the End User License Agreement. No can use content* from one game in another. The agreement covers all of the software's content*.

Instead of all of this WORK, just play FO3.

Anyone planning to do this should pop over to Beths board and PM Gstaff about it, I think the answer will be no because (as Kendo points out) the EULA forbids it. I know the EULA isn't law but they can make life awkward for any site hosting or openly working on something they disapprove of.

Once again Morroblivion didn't distributed any material from Morrowind. It contained a utility to convert the Morrowind data files to Oblivion. Bethesda don't like this. But it is legal (except the crazy DMCA reverese engineering clause).

The problem aren't courts.

If Bethesda is angry it doesn't do very well for us modders and this site. Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3 and NV are in my opinion the best supported games for modding. We have all what we need and backup from the producer. It make no sense to make them angry with this action or do you really want that the next game isn't moddable anymore. If yes then these people are horrible selfish.

I know what Morroblivion is, the point I was making is that the courts wouldn't be interested because there is no distribution of copyrighted content. I don't know how the law works in the U.S but over here EULAs are just about worthless, you can't see them at point of purchase and there is no way of proving who clicked "I agree" on the installer so they are unenforceable as well. The issue here as you quite rightly point out is upsetting Bethesda, they are one of the few who still support PC gaming and modding, we really should respect their wishes unless we want that to change.

Sesom has a valid point. Though I never played or modded Morrowind, I heard it was fairly easy to do. Oblivion was a snap to mod from day one. Then FO3 and things started getting tougher. Now New Vegas and look at what modders are going through. If things progress, the next BethSoft game may well be impossible to mod. The modding future is starting to look bleak.

And yes, people are selfish. Look at the uniformed support this idea is getting and the serious 'I don't care' mentality. Modding and making the games the way you like is part of the fun, but if someone's vision of 'fun' screws it up for everyone else, well they ought to take a hard look at that.

That's why I put on my police hat  . Btw. NV isn't hard to mod. It is simply new. As always with new things it takes time to figure out what has changed.

Everyone was happy until you brought it up. Now... I'm not even distributing anything at all. I just posted, in 19 steps, what I did to legally obtained data files on my computer. If that's illegal, then I'm perfectly comfortable breaking that law. Whatever law that is. I'm having fun, and I like to think people had fun reading this thread. Don't stop me, dude. I'm not doing anything wrong.

... Certainly, the nexus here isn't going to get a runaround for this being discussed. It's harmless, it really is.
