JackTrenton
I've installed this again and again but the launcher still says 'install' instead of play. It then says something about using the installers in the DVD-ROM, but that didn't do anything. I don't know what to do. It accepted my authorization code and still won't install. :wallbash:
JimboUK
Open Steam and try to install it through that, it should be in your game library.
JackTrenton
Thanks, I'm trying that. I have it downloading now. I'll tell you if it works.
JimboUK
Thanks, I'm trying that. I have it downloading now. I'll tell you if it works. Steam ended up downloading mine, it wouldn't use the disk no matter what I tried.
JackTrenton
4 hours remaining. Looks like it's going to take a while. Hopefully this will fix it, the only other thing I can think of is take it back and get another copy.
JackTrenton
It just finished downloading over steam. Still doesn't work :wallbash: F steam. Why they chose to use steam for NV is beyond comprehension.
JackTrenton
I fixed it! All I had to do was run steam as administrator. Worked like a charm!
frobac
It's not just me then! My first time on Steam and I'm puzzled why it has to download the game when I have a nice shiny DVD in my drive. Downloading updates I can understand, but the entire game? On my connection, i's frustratingly slow.
frobac
For those of us who are new to Steam and want to install FNV from disc, try this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5357-FSQM-0382 You may have to change various directories (such as "Program Files" to "Program Files (x86)", depending on your system), but I can vouch for the fact that it works. I just wish I'd found this information much sooner...
Asplundh
If Fallout NV seems to be installing unusually slowly, log on to your Steam account, click the Steam drop-down menu (upper left-hand corner), select Settings, then select DOWNLOADS+CLOUD. Check what your Internet Connection is. The default setting seems to be "DSL > 256" or "DSL > 768" for some odd reason. If your have a broadband internet connection, change it to "DSL/Cable > 2M" and you'll see a huge improvement in install speed. I was lucky . . . I caught this when I went to install Civilization V and month or so ago.
