So I deleted Windows Installer...

Recommended Posts

When I attempted to install Borderlands off the disk, it gave me an error message 1722, which apparently indicates a problem with WIndows Installer being messed up. Being the idiot I am, I promptly decided to follow the first fix for it I saw: Delete Windows Installer and download a new one from Microsoft.

Then I saw that Microsoft only hosts Installer for non-Windows 7 versions. None of the downloads there were applicable to my computer.

So is there any hope for getting Windows Installer back so I can play Borderlands again? I have a laptop at my disposal that has Win7 on it, but I couldn't find the WIndows Installer files to copy them to the other computer.

If Windows 7, system restore would be a good idea, role back to the time before the er accident and it'll correct itself. Windows 7's system restore is really good, it helped me in many occasions.

I had a missing drive error and it fixed it, i thought it wouldn't because it was missing a certain file, but it restored it amazingly. Maybe you should give it a try before you have doubts,

I'm kind of scared of system restore, though. Every time I tried it on XP I'd end up having to wipe the whole computer. If there's no way to copy the files from another computer, I'll wait 'til my mod is released before I chance a system restore.

Okay, I restored it. It's back now, but Borderlands still gives me an error: Error 1722: THere is a problem with this Windows INstaller package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

That seems to indicate to me a problem with Installer. Does BOrderlands just not like Windows 7?

It also could be the disk being scratched, i had something like that happen to a old Far Cry disk and the installer wouldn't start up, Check the disk for Marks or scratches.
