The Journey to Ostagar

One thing I always disliked is the compete lack of time you get to spend with Duncan. I think it would be awesome if someone made a quest about the Journey to Ostagar after the initial backround story.

1 in this quest the player gets to talk to Duncan ore/ gets to know him more

2 a chance t actually learn more about the grey wardens and maybe encounter some that are also on their way to Ostagar

3 a chance to get to fight with Duncan( maybe encounter several bandits on the road that need to die)

4 the reward for this quest maybe to ether learn some talents from Duncan or a chance to get some equipment of some kind.

5 just a thought maybe a Grey Warde Specialization like 1st talent gives you extra damage verse dark spawn, 2nd talent lets you drain their health with each hit(similar to the templar talent to drain mana from a mage.

these are just ideas mostly for immersion although I think the 5th one would be cool I mean to actually have some benefit to being grey warden

The problem with this, though interesting. It might get a bit tedious. Because you are walking towards Ostagar, you are likely to be following the road, you might be attacked by bandits, but most of the time you would be just ...walking.

I think the transition from the completion of the origin story - to - Ostagar is a good one.

No doubt the writers at Bioware probably thought of something like this, but they probably couldn't write an interesting way to put it in the game.

I think it would work FINE in a written story or comic book, but when you play through it as a game, it is totally different.

Right, I'm new here, so please forgive any misunderstandings I might have about what can and can't be done with mods ...

Here's an idea for how the mod could work - upon completion of the origin story, a map opens up. This map shows you and Duncan travelling from either your original place of residence, or, if you want to save development time, from an arbitrarily located 'party camp', from which you travel to Ostagar. On the way, you experience three random encounters - the first and third of which are battles, and the second is when you and Duncan set up camp for the night, and is when you can actually talk to him.

The battles can be set up anyway the mod developer(s) want, but I have a suggestion - rather than being simple battles, the first can be a lead-in to a quest, wherein a group of bandits, preying on those who were late in taking off for Ostagar after most of the army had gone through, attempt to rob you, much like the bandits at Lothering. After killing them (If you don't choose the Persuade/Intimidate options), you'll find the corpse of a chantry lay sister, who was to bring a sacred artifact to the Grand Elder at Ostagar for blessing the troops with, which you'll find on her corpse. This starts a quest, wherein you've got to deliver the artifact to the Elder. If you Persuade/Intimidate them (or even bribe them), you can pass unmolested, but with the quest not having activated.

In the third random encounter, you run into a band of soldiers who became disenchanted with the current campaign. Here, you can Intimidate/Persuade/Bribe them to rejoin the army, let them go in peace, or kill them as traitors to Ferelden (threatening will make them attack you). This starts and ends another quest, which comes under the 'Journey to Ostagar' quest pack in the journal, along with the earlier quest.

In the second random encounter, you can talk with Duncan, ask him about himself and what it means to be a grey warden (though he'll keep the main secrets to himself for plot purposes). It also leads into a quest wherein you can ask him about his own private stash of items and money, to be used in case of emergencies in Denerim - but only if you can start a conversation about his mortality/mortality of a grey warden in general. The stash can be located anywhere in Denerim that the mod developer(s) find(s) appropriate. The stash will contain a full set of Warden Commander Armor (so the Warden's Keep DLC is a must), two custom daggers to be made by the mod developer(s) called A Warden's Sacrifice (Dragonbone/3 Slots/+6 Damage to Darkspawn, Weakens Darkspawn,+3 Willpower,+3 Constitution), along with a random, but decent amount of gold (+10 at least). Again, this becomes another quest in the 'Journey to Ostagar' quest pack, completing it.

EDIT: I just noticed that you mentioned a Grey Warden specialization. While it would be nice to have, something like that shouldn't be available that early, as it screws with the plot - after all, you aren't a Grey Warden yet, how can you have Grey Warden talents? However, it could be included as some secret documents you can find along with Duncan's Stash (much like how you can get the Taint-based talents from Avernus), as long as you talk to him about some special talents for Grey Wardens, so your character would know to look for them.

Very nice. I would certantly download this if its made properly. Although I dont like randomly find a chest containing some really epic armor, its so lame. I'd rather want that you and duncan becomes friend, and he will give you an armor like his own (its soo cool :D )

Please make this mod
