Crash on "Save"! what causes this?

Hey every1

I keep getting the same CTD again and again, sometimes it will stop if I load a game a few saves back

Which is rather strange since no mods have been added or removed between the saves and that usually is the reason why these bugs occur

Does any one know what causes this bug, and how to solve it?

I'd especially like to know the mechanics behind this, as it seem completely crazy that saving the game will crash it, in all the games I've ever played this has never been an issue, so what is different with FO3 that this all of a sudden is a problem??? o_O

It was introduced in one of the official patches, it is an issue with persistent references in exterior cells.

Running Fo3edit master update will workaround it for you.

After reading your reply I took a look at the "master update" in the FO3edit tutorial, but I not quite clear on running the "master update" will effect ALL mods in the Data folder, or only the ones active when loading FO3edit, do you know this?

And thanks for replying to my cry for help ;)

As I recall it only affects enabled plugins.

Anything it makes changes to, it also backs up, so if it changes something you don't want, you didn't lose anything.

Yea that's true

Well once again thanks for the help, will give it a go

I recently did a post about this, I looked it up on google and someone had posted on a forum about going to GNR picking up the fat man and aiming at your feet and blowing your self up. I laughed at this post, assuming it was a troll but I was desperate to save without crashing. When I tried this, it loaded back to a old save apon death and I saved and not once have I had a problem with it. Found it here if you wish to read comments of other players trying this.

That kill yourself trick is a workaround for the same issue that fo3 master update does more elegantly.

Besides which, if you want to do it, just open the console and do player.kill. No need to blow yourself up.

Hehe good to know
