pawzseven
apologies if I am in the wrong forum here, me not yet being a modder.... Having enjoyed a number of excellent mods in F3, and having just got New Vegas, I thought it about time I downloaded Geck and had a go at creating mods for myself. I understand that the Geck for NV is not compatible with F3 - which slightly puzzled me when I d/ld the Geck package available for NV on Bethseda, which seemed to be intended for F3. I unpacked it OK, but when I try to run it, I am told the libvorbisfile.dll is missing and to reinstall the app. I tried the same procedure in Windows 7 64 bit, which is my games machine, and got the same message. Clearly other folk have successfully installed and run Geck, so what am I doing wrong - or where do I find this .dll is my question??

DoctorEars
You did install Geck into the Fallout NV folder? What ObLars is saying is to copy and paste the GECK files into the Fallout NV folder to use the GECK. The file you download isn't an installation file as most people might presume, it's the actual .exe for the GECK.

DoctorEars
1+ Touché. No, the real reason I added that bit is that "You did install Geck into the Fallout NV folder?" can imply that there was an installation process, which there isn't. I'm not blind or anything :)
pawzseven
Um, I am confused..... when I got the disk, I assumed it was an expansion and would integrate with F3, however, it seems to run from the Steam server, and I can't find a physical presence on the computer at all - does this mean I cannot create mods for it? I am not everso familiar with Windows Seven yet, but cannot find a path to it, only a shortcut.
DoctorEars
It's not an expansion, it's an entirely new game. To find the folder for it, you need to go into the Steam folder. The directory should be something like this: Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/fallout new vegas
pawzseven
right, that makes sense, however, the only reference to Steam I have found so far is in the Halflife folder, where mention is made to new vegas.ncf files, but there is no dedicated folder... I shall look again :) ah, found it, as you said, in a Common folder, but in Half-Life - there's sensible for you !
pawzseven
I have put the Setup.exe in the New Vegas folder, also the updater patch to 1.5 -the title gives the indication that the Geck is for F3, and I understood that the NV Geck is a different package to the F3 Geck, so that worries me - what do I do now though? The shortcut on the start menu gives me the same missing file message as before, so I got rid of that as it may have been looking at the old destination - and when I applied the patch it briefly said 'old file is missing'... I shall look at the Geck Wiki and see if there is a noob mod sticky on the forum which might help to see what I can glean - but all help is gratefully received
DoctorEars
There's a different GECK download for New Vegas, the Fallout 3 GECK is incompatible. You'll have to download the specific Fallout: New Vegas GECK.
