billyro
So I recently got my new computer which is quite powerful and I'm happy with it, but the monitor I got with it is... well, s***. The colours are oversaturated and the contrast is rubbish. I want a good monitor that is clear and crisp, has great colours and, preferably, as small as possible. I've been using a 14" monitor for about 3 years and this 21.5" monitor feels too big for me. I've been looking around, and to no avail. The only monitor I've found so far that I'm pretty sure will be good, is the Samsung 3 LED Monitor 24 Inch, but yeah, that's even bigger than the one I have now. Does anyone know of a monitor that looks great, performs great, and if possible, is relatively small? I don't really want to spend any more than $300 but I will if I have to. Thanks. Vagrant0
You probably aren't going to get that high of a resolution on anything smaller than a 18" monitor, for 3 reasons. First is that since they aren't doing CRTs any more, larger screens are cheaper and easier to put on a desk. Second is that to even notice 1080p on a 14" screen you would need to have your eyes less than 2 feet away from the screen, which is probably unhealthy to do for a long period of time. Third is that having that high of a pixel density would be far too expensive given how few people want to use a tiny monitor these days when 20"-22" is the norm. It's the same reason why there aren't any 4k TVs that are smaller than 40". You might just have to move the monitor a few inches away from your face and adjust to it. billyro
I see. Ah well, I'll keep an eye out for an 18" 1080p monitor in the shop today, since that's what I'd prefer, but yeah, anything that looks nice I'll consider. Thanks for the clarification. EDIT: There was a sneaky colour optimsation setting in the Nvidia Control Panel that wasn't enabled and was the main reason everything looked so terrible: it now looks much better with that setting back on. The black levels are still pretty crap though so I'm still considering getting a new monitor. I was thinking about getting the ASUS VG248QE, but since I won't be using 3D Technology, nor do I have any games that will run at 120 frames, I'm not sure if I should bother.
