help on RAM

You can combine it with your other 512 provided you have another free RAM slot. Depends how much RAM you want/can afford.

But uh, it might be best to get someone who knows what they're doing to install it, unless you've done RAM before... it's all too easy to damage those things.

As far as I know you'll have to check the RAM type, and how much Mhz is has.

For example, if your 512MB RAM is 333Mhz your new must be too.

Doesen't depend on wheather you buy another 512 or a single 1024RAM.

DDR RAM should always have the same Mhz your processor has.

That's what the guy at the computershop told me, when I bought pieces for my holy machine. ^^"

(How I hate that If I can't remember words I'd need... hope it is understandable.)

Sorry to jump in your thread, but is it true Oblivion needs a clear 512mb to run correctly ? many thanks if you can humor me on this !!! :D

Honestly..?

I wouldn't try to run this game with less than 2 gigs.

Oh... I know you CAN run it with less, but not without shutting off almost every visual enhancement in the game and/or heavily tweaking the Oblivion.ini file.

My advice to all gamers is this: the future standard, so far as minimum system memory is concerned, is going to end up being in the 2 to 3 gigabyte range before much longer. It's not super-critical yet, but between new releases and also... Windows Vista... I'd start thinking seriously about hardware upgrades if your system currently falls short of that mark.

Thanks Tessera

Can you recomend any sights for me to learn more about memory expansion so i dont go filling threads with FAQ's . As you can guess im new to this upgrade stuff but Oblivoin drives me to do so.

I feel your pain... this game inspired me to build an entirely new system from scratch. It really needs a very high-performance computer to run properly.

Here's an article about the system that I've built, if you're curious about it:

http://tessmage.com/tessforum/viewtopic.php?t=228

That should give you some idea of how demanding Oblivion can be.

Now, as for adding memory to your system, it would help if I knew what type of memory you're currently using. In other words, is it DDR PC3200, DDR2 PC5400, etc. etc. Those numbers refer to the basic memory type and its "speed" (I placed "speed" in quotes because there's a bit more to it than that). Obviously, you need to add memory modules that are reasonably close to the same type that you already have installed. Check your motherboard documentation, if you're not certain about this.

Here's a rather simplified article about memory upgrades that has some decent, basic information:

http://computermemoryupgrade.mysuperpc.com...grade_faq.shtml

Lastly, here's an excellent article on how to tweak Oblivion and optimize it for your system:

Let me know if I can be of further help.

i think that 2X512 is better than 1X1gig because if i 512 buggers up, then you got another 512 to fall back on, if your 1gig buggers up, well, ur then buggered XD

also, you should be aware about the different types of ram, not just the speed of it all. you can get a DDR, and a DDR2 which are totally different (there are others too, not just these) so you have to make sure what type of ram it is exactly.

there is a program out there that tells you everything about your computer. cant remember the name of it now but i think it was about 4 letters long. i used to have it a while ago and told you everything from what make your computer is to the tempurature its all running at. this could help you out a bit
