Why are people using the d3d9 fix when they have no idea what it actua

I'm running the game on a quite adequate machine but my proper graphics card is in the shop and I'm using a 'courtesy card' which is. . weak.

So I have the water effects minimized, reduced the 'clutter', I have the D3D9 in and now I have 'temo' console as well!

Anyone have anything else?

The 'long term' problems aren't troubling me, I've reinstalled twice already from. . .er, messing with stuff I shouldn't have.

A lot of fuss about nothing to be honest, if it helps some people then good luck to them.

Turn off shadows and lower view distances I guess.

Shadows helps but I had to up the actor view distance because getting shot at by NPC's that I couldn't see was quite annoying. Switching the mouse acceleration thing off was a huge help too.

It's starting to feel like I've rewritten half of the .ini file by now : ) Definitely in for a reinstall when I get my card back!

i dont know if this has been posted yet, but nvidia released their 260.99 g-force drivers.

they have support now for FO:NV. now better drivers for anti-aliasing and sli that i have noticed for sure. i have 2x 8800gts 640mb's running in an sli configuration and i have gotten an incredible frame rate increase with the new drivers. without them i could only run the game on mid settings wo/anti-aliasing and would still have choppy frames, now i can run on high setting with almost full anti-aliasing support. the game runs like butter now too.

I dont get it.

It gave me a massive boost in performance, that's really what matters atm.

Its just a .dll file. Once I hear about Bethesda patching the game in a way which optimizes the games performance, then I will remove the .dll but until then, it stays.

Also, when a file corrupts, steam has a function called "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" where it scans the game files and replaces any troublesome/missing files, instead of you having to fully reinstall (that's the impression I got on how it works at least)
