Loads of Map Room *Minor Spoilers*

Ok so from what i've read and found out is that the new vegas map is slightly larger than FO3 but overall are the same size (from various sources. google "Is new vegas map same size as Fallout 3?")

So both maps are bascially the same size, however New Vegas seems to be lacking a lot of stuff compared to FO3. I have, essentially, discovered all the location on New Vegas and am now bored out of my mind. However looking at the map and then FO3's map, there's soooo much space left in New Vegas -- About a fourth of the map wasn't used.

Look below: (sorry for New Vegas map, had to improvise)

Now seriously, FO3's map was great. the entire map was explorable, no invisible barriers blocking you from parts of the map, and the very corners of the map had places more or less.

Then we have New Vegas's map

First off, when i was looking at the map on my pipboy, I saw that huuuuge expanse of land on the left side of the map (area below jacob's town and above mojave outpose). So when I went to the "entrance" point (Canyon Wreckage), and ofcourse, couldn't go past due to invisible walls. I nocliped through the wreckage and saw this huge expanse, and I mean really it was almost as far as the eye could see in the game. that entire place is completly empty. fun.

Everything on the top of the map is empty too. I'm not bored enough to explore and see if there are invisible walls there or not.

Again, just look at the FO3 map and the New Vegas map. Maybe they did that to give modders some room, I have no idea, but seriously wtf? Sure i know it's probably fit to scale to real world but still...

Share your thoughts on the map comparions? lol

FNV definitely has that boxed-in feeling to it what with the cliffs or conveniently-placed wreckage where you might expect the edge of the map to be. Of course, I always thought it was weird how you weren't allowed past a certain point in FO3 (you'd simply stop moving, and a message would appear telling you that you're at the limit). The alternative being to wrap around to the other side of the map. :D

I look at it this way: there's just as much stuff to do in FNV as FO3, but I don't have to run as far to get to it, and there's plenty of room for more stuff in DLCs (which is probably how they're going to fill that space). The downside is that FNV has a lot more walls that you have to walk around.

I think they deliberately did this so that when they release the DLCs they can open up unused areas of the map rather than sending you off to an entirely new region like most of the Fallout 3 DLCs did.

Personally I like there being more "natural" barriers to corall me in rather than invisible walls like in the Capital Wasteland.

Exactly, Thats why when I cought myself thinking about all this, That was my immediate though afterwards, it makes a lot of sense after all. But then again, They sorta did the same thing with Oblivion. They left a lot of unused space. Soooo I dont know. its not Bethesda anymore so that kinda affects my judgement a lil' bit. Still I have a gut feeling itll be DLC areas.
