iXenite
You have a point, but I'm fairly certain the OP is going for pre-built rigs over making one themselves. So I don't think they're looking for the price differences between graphics cards. Although you are right on with the difference in price though, the GTX 770 is roughly a 100 dollars more than the 970.

There are services offering assemble of custom rigs with 1 year+ guaranty (the parts have usually additional 3 years guaranty from manufacturer). Besides that I'm sure you can find prebuild rig on amazon with any gpu that is currently on the market (with exception of evga kingpin and rog limited edition for ln2). theinterjecter
if you want a laptop, then sager offer great bang for buck. if you want a desktop, get something recent with a potent graphics card, a 4 core intel or 8 core AMD, a good bit of ram, and a 240GB SSD. also get yourself a korean 27" 1440p monitor, because theyre the f*#@ing s#*!. Well BestBuy has warranties as well though (and Geek Squad support), and those companies you refer to, like iBuyPower or CyberPowerPC charge about 500+ dollars base line just for assembly, in addition to whatever you add. So you end up paying more to have them put it together for you then you would have if you put it together by yourself. I mean, last I checked it is nearly 1000 dollars to put together a PC that is not as good as the one I linked from BestBuy. TigerDirect is also fairly steep for their assembly fees from what I've seen of their prices in their stores. Also, it's pretty well the same price to build that PC I shared from BestBuy from the CyperPower website. Which by the way, it's a CyberPowerPC that made the computer I shared in the link, so you're getting it from them anyway. Either way, it's up to the individual on what they want I suppose. Getting a PC from a store, a builder, or building it yourself is all valid I suppose. Edited February 10, 2015 by DaddyDirection
theinterjecter
you can get far better quality if you build yourself though, dont want any nasty firecracker PSUs going bang and taking a chunk of your rig with it

Someone that I know used such services and haven't paid nearly as much for assembly. 170 if I remember corectly, guaranty was optional and would cost more. BlackRoseOfThorns
you can get far better quality if you build yourself though, dont want any nasty firecracker PSUs going bang and taking a chunk of your rig with it Yeah, plus you can find good deals when you look for parts yourself. I ended up getting platinum 1200w psu for a price of 750w unit :P What else I looked at was temps and noise level. Sometimes just getting different gpu brand (evga vs msi vs etc) might make a huge difference due to different cooling solution. Mobo should be also adjusted to what you will be doing, this can be either place where you save money or invest. What usually bothers me the most in pre-made rigs is the storage. They push 2x120gb ssd's with so so driver and pair them with 750gb storage, when you would be more happy with your system on single 240gb ssd and maybe external/internal 1 tera. Evo ssd's dropped a bit in price last year, they were always solid. The last thing is the pc case. It's either: bad airflow, layout does not allow for upgrade you're planning later on (installing radiators for example), total waste of money on something that looks like spaceship or ascethics just don't fit your personal taste. I would feel bad if I was not able to make this choice myself. PS: I would expect better gpu than gtx 770 from a rig for 1.9k.
theinterjecter
theres no case out there that could ever satisfy me though, id love a ft02, but its hella expensive and doesnt have enough 3.5" drive bays

I get rid of all hard drive bays and even contemplate removing optic bay. One day I might find myself grabbing drill and customizing my case a little bit.
