vertria
Not too long ago, I decided that I wanted to start a character that, in a roleplaying sense, is an assassin. I downloaded a couple weapons I thought looked cool, some armor, and some headgear. (Don't worry, this is all for personal use. They will never be uploaded here or anywhere else.) I know how to tweak weapons and armor to have the specific stats that I want, including silencing them. I even know how to put object effects on the items. I also make them quest items so Dead Money won't take them away and set their weight to zero so they will help me stay under the 100 pound restriction for Honest Hearts. I've even made them have "infinite ammo" like the nuke detonator from Lonesome Road. (To "balance" all of this, their durability isn't ohemgee amazing.) All was well... Until I ran into a couple problems. Said problems have gone over my head and no matter what I think of, it just flat-out will not work. I think the problem has something to do with scripting or something similar, which is far beyond my abilities. I can find said scripts and look them over, but it may as well be written in Chinese. There are two distinct problems: 1) This one has probably been up about a thousand times, but it's still one of my problems. *Minor spoiler alert for those who haven't played Old World Blues!* What I want is for the armor to have the voice from the Stealth Suit Mk II. I've tried all manner of things, but I have to assume that my problem comes from some manner of scripting. As mentioned, I haven't the foggiest on how to do scripting. 2) This has also come up a thousand times... variable night vision. While I was able to get the NV to turn on while indoors and off when I go outside, I simply cannot make it also based on the time of day. I've tried messing with the conditions of the item in various ways, including ways that claim they work similarly in mods. I copied exactly what said mods have as their conditions to no avail. Is this also a scripting thing? If anyone knows how to solve these problems, I would greatly appreciate you sharing your wisdom. This probably wouldn't be as bothersome as it is if I didn't want these effects on very specific items, but I do. Thank you ahead of time if you know how to fix these issues. I'm going to be heading to bed but will check back when I wake up. Respectfully,~Vertria Edit: I tried each time just before I reloaded the game to turn off and back on Archive Invalidation. Guess that should have been mentioned. Whoops! Edited February 9, 2015 by vertria
vertria
Alrighty... Apparently either nobody knows how to fix the problem with the armor and/or night vision or they just don't feel like writing it out. That's fine by me. I've run into another problem that I would like a little help with. This should be a much easier thing to deal with other than scripts and what not. I simply cannot get some weapons and armor to keep their texture patterns when I make myself a "unqiue" variant of that item. For instance, I downloaded Kabar Knife or Knives by zaty1 ( http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/38491 ). I went into the GECK and, using the same "technique" I have done a dozen or more times, I made a "unique" variant of the Blackened Kabar. Problem is that whenenever I equip it, in third or first person modes, it has absolutely no textures on it at all. It's just a completely dull grey combat knife. I've left it out in the open world and I've tried putting it in a container and neither worked. I keep having the same problem. Anyone know of a possible solution to this? JimboUK
Texture locations are stored in the NIF. Copy the weapons NIF to somewhere new in the meshes folder and then edit the filepaths in that NIF with Nifscope to point at your new textures, then you can do your GECK stuff.
