CommanderCrazy
Something else you might want to try, is to use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.try to use a separate pair from the one you have as a test, or just look for an adaptor.
Vagrant0
You might want to take a look at power supply voltages, especially the 5 volt line.A program like PC-Wizard can be helpful.Voltages from speedfan +3.3V: 3.36V+5V: 4.97 - 5.00V+12V: 12.42V-12V: -8.82V-5V: 4.92V initially but became -8.78V and remained there.+5V: 4.92V (I have 2 listings for +5V for some reason) Oddly enough, after rebooting (cold boot) the problem seemed to go away, but returned after a few hours of use. Unplugged it and plugged the mouse back in again before checking voltages, no issues so far (about 2 hours ago (minimal use)).
Qwaxalot
Don't know for sure, but your power supply voltages are flaky. Given your experience I assume you've looked at the obvious. Computer is clean, all fans are running etc.If it were mine, I would immediately swap out the power supply
Jagermh
PS: If you want to go supermouse-ified, you might try and tame one of these wee beasties. http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/rat9.htm Agreed, a bit pricey but worth it. I have one and its great.
CommanderCrazy
Oh noes! I though I'd never see one of them again Marthos. That thing gave me horrible RSI. Now I just use a Roccat Kone [+]. Much better.

Much better. To be honest, I spent more time twiddling with it than playing my games, so its now on permenant loan to a friend.

Mouse seems to be a bit less prone to hanging, but it still happens. Voltages are largely constant, even when the hanging occurs. Am I right in it just being the mouse that is acting up? It is by now a few years old so I guess it isn't impossible. Powersupply is less than a year old and was one of the most reliable available. Unfortunately, my other mouse is a standard PS2 one, so I can't use it to test afterall. As for what kind of mouse I'd buy... It would definitely NOT be a cordless one. I have no reason to use a cordless mouse with a desktop, and the battery life on your standard cordless mouse just wouldn't be practical with the sort of usage I give. A $150 mouse is also far outside my $5.25 budget. Edited November 12, 2010 by Vagrant0
Qwaxalot
Sure, the USB mouse is suspect, but the keyboard too, especially since the KB is a PS2 connection? Both ports are serial in nature, and are powered by the 5 volt line. -12V: -8.82V-5V: 4.92V initially but became -8.78V and remained there. Even though the power supply is recent and presumably a good one; the fact that one of the 12 volt rails drops to -8.82V, and you get that mysterious second 5V reading jumping to 8.78V is suspicious to me. However, try to borrow a USB mouse and try it. For that matter, try to borrow a keyboard too. Good luck
