Erogoan
As I was not able to find a suitable place in the 3D modeling forums for this, I decided to come here. Is it fine [legal, able to, etc.] to export models, their animations, and textures from Fallout New Vegas and use them in Steam Source servers [such as Garry's mod, a community that has several exported FO3 models] as long as the creators of Fallout New Vegas are given credit? Thanks for your time.
TheVampireDante
No. It is illegal to do so. You would need to obtain express consent from the copyright holders of whatever content you wanted to use (the developer\publisher), and I just do not see that happening. Erogoan
Well I think that's kind of stupid. If they allow their content to be modded and added onto, then why wouldn't they care if people took their models for their game and just messed around with them on another game engine?Especially when they'd get credit for making the models when people asked about them. JCHR
what did ppl do to port the FO3 weapons to garrymod?
Erogoan
They probably ported the animations of the weapon along with the model, and then code their own firing system or something.
gsmanners
Models are copyrighted so (depending on what country you live in) your rights to distribute them may be limited. However, in the US, it's generally acceptable to use a copy of something as long as you aren't using it more than once. And then, only for personal use (except for certain Fair Use exceptions). Once again, I'm not a lawyer, so this is just stuff off the top of my head, and not really comprehensive.
