Block mod

Indeed blocking a battle axe with a fork is not realistic. But there are no forks in the game of Skyrim! (as weapons). There are daggers and as far as i can remember you can't block with daggers in Skyrim. I don't remember ever doing it but if i'm wrong and you can block with daggers then yes that's pretty unrealistic. Now please stop arguing about this. I already said i agree with you.

One final point that i would like to make is that Skyrim is NOT realistic! I just wanted this tiny little aspect of it to be just a little bit less unrealistic.

About that "perfect blocking perk". I would certainly love to have that kind of perk but unfortunatley i don't know how to create it.

Another thing. I thank you for that link. Very usefull. But it fails to tell me how i change any of these settings. Do i edit some file? Do i type in a console command? Do i edit something in the CK? Sorry if i seem like an idiot but i honestly have no idea what it is you want me to do. Change the settings... Yes. But how??

I am not arguing. Yes you can block with any melee weapon in the game.

Anyways, if you have the CK installed I strongly recommend that you do such a simple thing as you want done yourself because that way you will learn how to do this kind of things and then you can go ahead and tweak any (minor) thing to your liking. That's how everyone started.

I knocked up a perk that makes it so you deal no damage to blocking targets, and they deal no damage to you if you're blocking unless they are dragons/trolls/bears. The catch is other actors still deal damage to other blocking actors (that would need the settings to be changed).

edit: Ah crap, I am not permitted to just upload it here.

You did? That's great! Can't you upload it on nexusmods?

I do like to learn how to do mods myself and most of my posts to various forums are about asking for someone to teach me how to do a certain thing. Normally when posting mod requests i add the option of helping me create the mod myself rather than do it for me. However this time i did not and i have no good reason for that...

And i would still very much like to know how i change these settings you speak of. Suppose i want to set fBlockMax to 1. How do i do that?

not settings, do the perk thing, it's better for a number of reasons.

I don't like just telling ppl what to click rather than explaining why/how something works etc but I'm in a hurry, and I want the first mod I upload here to be my pirate mod that's coming later today or tomorrow. So here's what you need to do:

1. get the CK (google if you don't know how to get it)

2. open it, go to File -> data, tick Skyrim.esm and ok

3. press cancel on every error message (it's normal)

4. in the left column click on PERK

5. rightclick any perk and click NEW

6. in the ID field put: aaPerfectBlock

7. Name field: Perfect Blocking

8. right click in the field that say perk entries and click new

9. click on Entrie points on the right

10. from the drop down menu there select "Mod Incoming damage", from the drop down on the right then Multiply Value and put 0.0 there

11. select the rider named "Perk Owner", right click in the conditions field and navigate to "IsBlocking", the condition should say

S IsBlocking NONE == 1 AND, that means if the perk owner is blocking the incoming damage is multiplied with 0, you can add conditions in the ATTACKER Rider that says "GetIsrace == XRace == 1" X being troll/bear (not sure about dragon I always do haskeyword ActorTypeDragon == 1 for them

12. prss ok on the whole thing

13. make a new perk entry following the steps 8-12, only this time select "Mod Attack Damage", set it to 0 as well, and add a condition in the rider TARGET that is "IsBlocking == 1", this will set your attack damage to 0 if you're attacking something that is blocking

14. click ok and save via file-> save, give your esp a name and check it

15. ingame open the console and type: help "perfect blocking", then player.addperk IDofPerfectBlockingPerk(you get the idea)

may sound confusing but try it and also google for tutorials on perks, it is easy and nobody gave me a step for step instruction on anything either. you learn by doing and/or tutorials. have fun and i hope it'll work for you.

edit: best way to learn once you know some basics is imho to open up mods you like in the ck and seeing how they do things.

Now listen here. I did not ask for you to just tell me what to klick. I do appreciate it very much of course. But you made it seem like i asked for it because i am lazy or whatever and that's simply not the case. I did however ask for help understanding and changing the settings you spoke of. And i still am. Because i want to learn.

I will follow your guide and let you know if i get it working.

Thanks for the detailed description! I was having trouble finding the correct riders. Maybe next time there's a request I'll be able to get my act together and actually make the mod in a timely manner

Well if it is any comfort i can inform you that i did follow the detailed description very carefully and yet it seems to have no effect on my game. So if you can get it working and upload the mod i would like that very much. In other words, the request yet stands.

One more thing my dear, can you tell me something about these strange settings mentioned in previous posts? techprins and Bizkit seem to share the idea that i do absolutley not need to know anything about it and thus refuse to tell me anything. Which i find slightly annoying.

the game settings which are all listed in the link I provided are the variables which govern A LOT of things in the game. for example, there is a setting for what the minimum pickpocket chance is. setting it to 99 will give you a 99% chance of pickpocketing even 10000 gold with a base skill of 0.

And there are settings governing blocking. You go into the ck open Skyrim.esm, and under "gameplay" there is "settings". it is a list of all those variables. you can use the filter and search for BlockMaxChance (it is set to 0.7000) and BlockBase or sth similar. Setting both to e.g. 999 will probably make blocking "perfect", but for everybody in the game, meaning even a skeever (if they can block not sure, some creatures can), could block a battle axe etc.

I assure you that my perk solution works, you must have slipped up trying to follow my steps, or you have not added the perk to your character in game correctly. Remember, you have to "save as" and create a XXX.esp file that you check in NMM or in the launcher like any other mod.

Besides, I am being completely chill. I am not trying to be condescending or anything. You seem to have misinterpreted my posts in such a manner.
