How can I make a transparent texture using photoshop?

Here's how I remember doing it...

Open up the texture, go to channels and look at your alpha channel. Paint it black where you want it to be transparent, white where you want it to be opaque, and shades of gray as you want it to be somewhere in between.

I'm pretty sure the nif needs an alphaproperty in order to it to work as well, I might be wrong about that.

You need to use the Alpha Channel.

White = 100% visible, Black = Invisible.

edit: Quetzlsacatanango beat me by seconds lol..

Btw, when you are saving it as .dds remember to use a setting that keeps the alpha channel information.

Got this info on a Sensai post in other forum :

Open it using Nifskope, press F2 to bring the block list, click the meshes that you want to use the alpha, on the blocklist the NiTriShape ( or NiTriStrips ) will be highlighted. Right Click it > Node > Attach Property > NiAlphaProperty. It should work, then save the .nif and test it in-game.

Also another tip, do not paint the zone that will be hidden in black (in the alpha channel sure, but not in the RGB channel), it's a good practice to keep it generally the same color the visible part is, otherwise you risk having "black" borders where the texture goes from solid to transparent.

ANother thing is that you might want to avoid assigning your custom texture to the gore/meat caps, they are the bloody bits that appear when you die in a peticularly gruesome way, and you should probably leave the original texture showing, that probably goes for the pipboy aswel i think...
