liquidcell
Stalker and Fallout. You probably played them both. The biggest difference that I've noticed between the two was the A.I. in sandbox mode."A-Life" actually gave the NPCs free will to travel, trade, hunt, scavenge for food and do many other things. It actually made the game more immersive and made travel rather unpredictable because, you never knew if you were gonna randomly run into a pack of raiding party in a supposed "safe area"... or maybe find a dead body completely looted and mangled which wasn't there half an hour ago; using it as a clue to approach with caution.I am hoping to see some programmers imitate it to some measure and make one for New Vegas. It would make the gameplay a lot more interesting! You gotta admit, the A.I. in FO3 and FNV rarely take cover. Majority of them are head on kamikaze style. It would be a miracle to see them fight tactically, take cover and attempt to flank you while using teamwork.
dieangel68
Actually there is a system to make them take cover but the cover spots have to be placed manually by the level designer.
fronzelneekburm
Barely comparable. While in Stalker this could happen like "all over the area" events can only happen in the current cell, i.e. what you can "see" around you in Fallout 3 /NV. THis is a limitation of the engine, nothing you could fix with a mod. In theory the AI is quite similar - in fallout NV the caravans also travel, fight enemies when they encounter some and creatures may kill each other, it's just that this simply cant happen "behind your back" due to the mentioned restrictions of the engine. dieangel68
Well usually to me it doesn't really matter if stuff happen while i'm not there, it's not like it's going to affect my gameplay, but all the time whenever i'm traveling things happen that aren't directly the result of my actions. Legion members fending of giant ants, caravans defending against raiders. There was a mod on FO3 that was focused on making more wars between factions (which new vegas seems to have implemented), one part of it allowed the npcs to actually "loot" the peoples they killed, this made the game more dynamic, made the dominant faction character compete with you for loot so you couldn't just sit back and wait until the fight is over and reap the rewards.
