Prosthetic legs

No one makes fun of that sad little crippeled character of yours ! And you know it damn well, that those lifeless parts of your body are capable of more than a dumb waster could think of.

So I had this idea while I saw blhaab's "Trait - Handy-Capable" mod.

A character with proshtetic legs.

You run faster (1.5X) your legs can't cripple, and have a bit more carry weight (+20 pounds) but you have to run maintenance on your legs, um lats see once a week (on easy, on harder difficoulty you have to do more, and on hardcore mode you have to do this daily) using an aid item similar to weapon repair kit, something like "maintenance kit"

If you miss one occasion your legs become crippeled, if you miss two occasions your legs become useless, you may crawl your way to a vendor or somethin to buy a maintenance kit. (if youre lucky enugh to find one in his/her inventory)

So, is my idea good or not ?

Leave comments, more ideas are welcome.

Cheers !

I seen this and thought - The Bionic Courier.

Repair idea:

Replacement parts made using your 'maintainance kit' idea, some scrap metal and scrap electronics.

What about running the replacements? Are they powered in any way? Perhaps the need for fission batteries to recharge them if they are (runtime depending on now many batteries you use and how often you run).

Maybe use the 'powered leg' option as an upgrade if they aren't as standard.

Here's what I taught while I was away. You start with a pair of simple plain artificial legs. Ugly, and slow, but still better than crawling. Okay, Benny shoot you in the head two times, but what no one mentioned that he chrushed your legs to make sure you wont get away. Mole bu...(lol vault 21 joke FTW) I mean Doc. Mitchel gave you these simple legs since, um, you can't go and avange your "near-death experience" in a wheel chair.

You start the quest as soon as you step out from the doc's house.

The title would be something like : "Get yourself together"

You need to find scrap metal. A lot. 40 piece should do it.

Than find some scrap electronics 10

Sensor modules 6(each legs 3, at the joints)

Conductors 2

(and not sure, but)

A set of power armor to salvage the legs from it, than fill it with the parts you've found.

Fine you got tohse parts, now just need a computer and a place to assabmle your new legs. Maybe H & H Tool Factory. Fighting tose bots and making throught the traps would be enugh so don't make this any harder. Than the terminal would be near the main office in one of the side rooms. But something is wrong. That damn terminal is out of order, Now what ?

Oh, and a nother thing. If my memories serves me right, all of the FO3 DLC'S are the part of NV, than a the ammo press with that terminal on it would be a good look for the machine you'll need. Just put everything in this than press OK (or something like that)

You completed the first part, congrats. Now you need to find some parts to that terminal. special parts, not just any crap you find out there. (not sure about this, but hey, it's just in planning state  )

Okay, everything is set up. Make your legs. Done. But, youre not a tech specialits, and damn your not a surgeon.(you know, to calibrate sistems and connect nerves) You'll neet to go tu DR. Usanagi and use her auto-doc (or what the hell was that) Ofcourse she wont let you use it for free. Have to pay 5000 caps for it.

All done, you have your new legs, you can run faster.....(what mentioned in the started post)

Now the maintenance.

As I mentioned, you'll need to use maintenance kits. They are rare, so you might as well suck it up and start crafting them like crazy.

You'll need the following parts to get 1 kit :

-5 scrap metals

-2 scrap eletronics

-2 fission batteries (thx for the idea)

-2 wrenches

-2 duct tapes

And finally

-1 hammer

Upgrades :

You can purchase these at a nother terminal.

-Speed modifier : What ? It lats you run faster. (1000 caps)

-Extra carry weight. (1000 caps)

-No injuries from falling (1500 caps)

-open for more ideas.

Well that's it for now, I'm drained. Thx for the support.

Cheers !

Only somebody with a large ego would say their own idea is "too awesome to let die", because, frankly, only other people can be the unbiased judge of that.

That aside, I actually now want to play a courier in a wheelchair. Think Professor X, but without the no-killing policy.

A few ideas for a crippled character:

1. simple prosthetic legs, make it a trait you select at 1st level (hey, you can decide if you are nearsighted or what race/gender you are so why not being crippled?) and it results in slower speed but your legs are much harder to cripple and you get extra carrying capacity. Maybe have it retexture your legs to look wooden but I don't know if you could easily replace the legs model with something that looks prosthetic.

2. Wheelchair, I think this would be cooler. If would basically involve making a chair that you can drive around, not sure how easy it would be to let you aim a gun that way but would be nice. After that, its just a matter of making a variety of better wheelchairs. There would be the problem of jumping or moving over rough terrain of course, though you might be able to salvage parts from Mr. Handy robots to get a hover mode built in. Maybe eventually get an armored wheelchair. I doubt that a melee build would work well with this (unless you can ram people with your wheelchair).

3. Power armor training - You are crippled from the start but already begin with a suit of crude power armor to let you move around. Maybe the power armor just consists of the parts to move your legs and your upper torso has leather armor to protect it (basically, you can have prosthetic legs be a type of power armor that offers little protection to the upper body).

From then on, you must always wear a type of power armor to move (you might be able to crawl or move real slow otherwise). Maintenance is just a matter of repairing your armor as normal (maybe the crude armor you start with can be repaired with common armor or Armor Repair Kits that work on all sorts of armor... or maybe just power armor).

In this case, its less that you lost your legs and more that you have a spinal injury or something.

Other ideas:

Cybernetic eyes - You are normally blind (perception 1 or some other problem) but prosthetic eyes let you see (perception 10). The prosthetic eyes take the form of special eyewear you start with or by putting on a power armor helmet (due to neural interface or whatever). Maybe you can craft your own eyewear with cameras and scrap electronics and use those to repair your eyewear when needed.

Prosthetic Arm - Basically a crude power fist. Normally you have a problem with melee and unarmed attacks and maybe a penalty to carry weight, but when equipping a power fist or similar weapon then you get a bonus to strength. Power armor also negates this problem and gives you a bonus.

So... you could play a crippled caracter with problems in their legs, arms, and eyes but wearing power armor would negate all those problems. Maybe the respective traits leave your character permanantly crippled in the respective region except when they use the proper equipment to compensate.

I guess that leaves the torso... maybe a heart condition that gives you problems if you don't take medicine on a regular basis or wear power armor to compensate.

----

So, I'm imagining four or so traits. Each one targets the head, arms, legs, or torso of the Courier and renders those limbs permanently crippled except for when they have a proper piece of power armor or similar equipment on. The torso crippling requires regular application of a medicine (possibly med-x) or they suffer problems. Maybe each limb gets regular crippling damage over time so that the Courier can temporarily negate the problem with a Doctors Kit (without prosthetic legs then the Courier can splint their legs up for a bit and try to sprint over to the nearest town before collapsing again).

Wearing Power armor sets the affected limb to non-crippled as long as the armor is on (to negate the normal drawbacks of crippled limbs) and gives some kind of bonus due to the Courier being more comfortable with power armor then their own unaided limbs.

First thing I thought seeing this line: Tony Stark.

That gave me an idea, automotive war suits...

You must have a set amount of weight to carry and equip this, and it forces you to equip the weapon it's designed to have...

Like for instance:

- A armor that is designed like "Samus" from Metroid

- A weapon that can swap ammo to do different "attacks"

With the ammo swapping system, it's possible to make a Assault Rifle being able to switch to a shotgun/grenade rounds and fire differently... I think.
