Bad Mamma Jamma
Im not sure how much that convert into dollars. But I had the same problem and went out and got an ATI Radeon x1600 for around 250 dollars. It now runs on high quality, but at 1280x940, and that's the default setting. Hopefully thats in your price range. Also I'm not sure if it will make too much of a differance, but you might want to upgrade to 2MB or ram also. I hope this helps. Good luck. :)
vigo45
thanx :) If anyone has a other Video Card whil you tell me. Because the RADEON X1600 costs € 215 and its a little bit over my budget. >:(
m3lisk
hmm... euros are much different then dollars, because my x1600XT runs on high, and i paid only $130. Try www.newegg.com <- that is where mine came from, cheap and fast :)
Tiberiu911
I bought my Sapphire Radeon x1600 pro 512 mb for only 116 $ on ebay + transport. Runs Oblivion on high with the best resolution.
Switch
Before you buy anything, if that's a Dell Dimension we're talking about, you might want to double check that you can actually upgrade it all right. Prebuilts can be an absolute pain in the butt sometimes to get open or remove components from. Also, if you're going for mid range Radeon/ATI cards, make sure you have a PCI-E slot available... I don't know whether Dimensions come with those. Unless it says the card is AGP of course, but I don't think they do AGP beyond the x850.
vigo45
How can I see if I have a PCI-E slot available ? Because I don't understand anything about PCI, PCI- E and AGP
sleaaels
heres the difference between pci e and agp: http://www.gdhardware.com/hardware/video_c.../x800xt/001.htm, scroll down, next page for what pci e looks like. Hope this helps, i see myself as a noob when it come to this. Exchange rate is 1 euro-> 1.2-1.3 dollar, you'll have to check to make sure X1600's seem to be popular, i think ill take a look at it, pci-e, which mean new motherboard....crap! Marxist ßastard
Since the X1600 seems to be a pretty popular card in this thread, I guess this is worth a mention: The X1600 has just been superseded by the X1650, so expect price drops soon. Tiberiu911
As I mentioned already, I own a x1600. But it has came to my knowledge that x1900 exists, but I belive the x1900 is around 300-600$, exceeding your budget. Link to where you can buy the x1900 xtx pro link to where you can buy x1600 pro However bear in mind that theese are manufactered by ATI, therefore raising the price. I got Sapphire Radeon x1600 pro, it costed me about 50$ less via Ebay.
