Saving the Brotherhood

The main reason I didnt want to have to destroy the BoS was because I felt bad for Veronica. She has been my main companion throughout the game and thought she was a nice character. I was scared she would leave me the moment I did it, though thankfully she didnt. Though I'm sure she would have had she known about it (I went as far as leaving her at the Lucky 38 while doing it). Seeing her going back and finding the BoS bunker destroyed during the ending was so sad, I felt like I had totally betrayed her. :(

I finished a rough mod tonight but never checked if someone already did this. Looks like someone beat me to the punch. Either way, here is his. oh well I should have checked first.

I saw that before, too, but it's not the same thing. That mod lets the Brotherhood ally with the NCR even if Hardin is in control. It doesn't affect the quest from Mr. House at all.

Exactly... what we need is a mod that would allow Mr. House to ally with the BoS. I emphatically support this because the notion that I am required to betray and murder one of two allies is, frankly, an absurd departure from the way that I've played my character thus far. This is about "The House Always Wins V" and how it makes a "good" character technically impossible. I mean really... I have to betray and murder one of two parties that trust me? It just doesn't make sense, especially given the erudite nature of House's purported beliefs.

Also, Veronica. I'm going to massacre all the people she loves and still be able to talk to her?

I've read elsewhere that the GECK files for the game include a quest marker labeled "(Optional) Convince Mr. House that the Brotherhood of Steel is not a threat" or some such thing. So it may have been planned at some point during development, even if it is presently defunct.

I can't really express how much this would improve the experience for me. I feel very bad executing Mr. House, and I feel worse killing off the BoS (even if they are kind of douchey).

I'm interested in this as well. I was all for siding with House (questionable ethics or no, he seems the most capable of looking after Vegas), right up until this point. Were it not for Veronica, I wouldn't care so much about destroying the Brotherhood.

It's true that there are still references in the quest to a diplomatic option that must have been removed prior to release. It has "(Optional) Inform Mr. House that you've negotiated a peaceful solution with the Brotherhood" as the objective and "Player has convinced House that the Brotherhood is valuable against the NCR" in quest stages. I'm having a look, but my modding experience is limited to minor tweaks only; I'm not sure I'm experienced enough to start messing with main quests.

I don't get people's problem with the quest. When house asked me to destroy the BOS i just went into his lair and put him out of his misery. House is an idiot and he must die, end of story. If you blew up the brotherhood for this jerk you really deserved the bad ending. You can't expect to work for an evil character and end up with a "good" ending.

Yeah of course you could script your way out of the misery, but it simply wouldn't fit. Would be like scripting an option to the intro that goes like "Oh benny dont shoot me" and hes like "Oh okay *hands over platinum chip*"...

What i would really have liked to see was a way to really help out the brotherhood more, like if you kill all NCR troops with Archimedes then like the brotherhood takes back Helios one.

Well, Obsidian apparently disagrees, since they originally included the option. Even the published player's guide includes a reference to the diplomatic option. I'd also disagree with your assessment of Mr. House. So far, he seems like the closest thing to a good path in the game to me. The NCR puts on a good show, but it's increasingly clear as you go along that the leadership is corrupt and power hungry. And the Brotherhood, while certainly not evil, is not good by any stretch of the imagination, either. Personally, I want to save them because I like them, not because I think they're great people.
