DiaSin Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I am totally new to the GECK and am looking to learn how to port mods from FO3 to FONV. A friend said that you just edit a couple of lines in the ESP of the FO3 version to make it work in NV, but I have no idea where to even start. There are several FO3 mods that I want to port for personal use (Or to release if I can manage to get permission) so.. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what I have to do to get these mods working in New Vegas.
gsmanners Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Plugins have dependency issues. As such, you need to understand why it modifies what it does and what's changed between Fallout 3 and FNV to understand what else needs to change in the new plugin. The FNV engine will load the new plugin, but it will not behave as expected unless you address this issue.
DiaSin Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 At the moment its just clothing mods. There shouldnt be too many dependencies. I just dont even know where to start. I just want them to work in NV.
gsmanners Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 If it's just textures+meshes, then it should be fine. It's only stuff like plugins that might have problems.
DiaSin Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 The problem is the esp that adds the clothing to the game. I need to know how to change that and what to change. I just want the stuff added to the players inventory for now instead of ingame locations like they had set for FO3. I will attach one of the ESP files as an example. If I try to open the esp with the GECK, all it does is open geck to the default window as if I had opened it from the desktop. Thats how little I know about how to do this stuff. I don't even know how to get the esp open to edit it.
Knuckles930 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I guess if you have the meshes and textures you can "remake" the esp in GECK NV. Importing them again and rebuilding the items. But I guess someone else how knows how might be able to explain.
pretzdothack Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Make sure you have the right GECK first. Run through this tutorial information. http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Main_Page And there's this as well. http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Category:Mod_Tools Have fun.
