Every time you play Oblivion just do what i do, play the game, but not the main story straight away, that way you keep your anticipation up for the main story once you've completed all the other story lines (Fighters Guild, Mages Guild etc.)

me,personally, i haven't actually finished the main story yet and im still as interested in the game as i was when i started to play it. :D

Mods also help alot

this is my first post!

My first char was a wood elf. Ive actually finished all the quest possible(not fighters guild/mages guild.Ill never be that miserble :P) also, For some reason I never could add mods ! In my menu, the 'data' option just didnt open :( propably some installing issue... so I was just about to get bored with oblivion and toss it aside when - computer crashes , have to reboot.... reboot , reinstall Oblivion done. I culd add mods now!!! ;D so i started my Akis char, obliosly having downloaded many kinds of mods that improve my gamimg fun (still do, Mods do help alot), also taking Screenshots and resently downloaded Fraps for videos. Yep, doesnt get any better than this 8)

Grats ,welcome and watch your posts :) .

Peregrine, I couldnt of said it better.

I accually stopped playing Oblivion. Went back to some old classics, Diablo II, Baldurs Gate DA: II. It feels good getting apart of Oblivion after having played it for a whole summer. Im looking forward to buying Morrowind on PC. Xbox version just isnt as good without the mods... I miss the awesome storyline too. As long as my photoshop trail survives, il keep playing Oblivion for the screenshots. After that, who knows? A little 2 months break, come back and check up on the mods the community will have released...

And to give my point of view to this MW-OB debate, Morrowind was better. If I remember, it was released in 2002? Damn those graphics where really excelent at that time. I played the unmoded xbox version, but yet I found the visual effects beautifull. Nice sky, pleasent water, immensive gamplay. The only thing, in my oppinion, that Oblivion has better than Morrowind is the face-gen. (Im sure you all know how Morrowind Vanilla faces look like, and what choices you have in character creation. I had to play with that trough ALL of the game. beurk! )

Oblivion graphics are very pretty for the time, but as Peregrine stated, not THAT impresive. Morrowind really did impress me, since at the time... But then again, what do I know? I bought it 5 months ago from EB games!

I tryed playing morrowind but the atmosphere was terrible. Thats where Oblivion made a hughe step forward. But its all a matter of taste people, some hate morrowind, but love oblivion since they couldnt be bothered to discover the world of morrowind and thanks to that oblivion is something totally new to them, some love morrowind, but hate oblivion since they have to many expectations. And then there are those who are so open minded that they love both games.

The xbox to pc thing was kinda sad really, but having a problem with that is just a mental a thing otherwise let some UI plugins or whatever make you think:"Ok! Now its more PC like, I like that."

I bought the game of the year edition in mid 2005, and didn't know the game was already 3 years old (no sucky graphics to ring a bell ;) ) until I read it somewhere, which was weeks after I started playing it.

I still can't believe I never finished the temple quests, or all the daedric quests... Oh well, the game is still on my computer so.... Maybe ;)

For those of you who agree with Malchik that Obivion is two steps forward and five steps back from Morrowind, you should deifnitely look into trying Daggerfall as the best of the Elder Scrolls series. It is a much larger world than Morrowind with a more involved main plot. There are separate joinable factions for each of the nine divines plus Mages/Thieves/Fighter Guilds plus the Dark Bortherhood and miscellaneous knightly orders. Includes both were creatures and vampires as playable options. The graphics are deinfitely dated but it has even more of those advantages that Morrowind has compared to Oblivion.

Personally I have enjoyed and still enjoy Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion. (Arena seemed interesting in a historical sense when I tried it after the 10th anniversary re-release, but mostly seems like a very limited subset of Daggerfall.) Each of the Elder Scrolls series has its strengths and weaknesses. Morrowind is probably my favoreite of the three since I think it has achieved the best combinatin of setting, story line and realization of its fantasy world, but all of them are worth the time to learn and play (and re-play) from my view point. None of them seem to me to be dismissable as boring or unworthile to play.

Daggerfall (and Arena) are both playable under newer versions of DOSBox so hardware should not be an issue preventing you from experiencing them as long as you have a system that can run Morrowind or Oblivion comfortably.

Morrowind had me occupied for about 4 years! Two years was on the Xbox version. And even then I never did EVERYTHING that the game had to offer. Morrowind had crappy graphics, don't get me wrong. But Oblivion has shown me that graphics do not make a game. And Bethesda spent too many hours sitting around making nice pretty graphics. In morrowind, lore took a much bigger role. I wish to read all those books and be involved with it. Like the gods and such, this is mainly because in Oblivion you do not play the role of a reincarnated hero. And those buffoons on this site that say things like "I took one look at morrowind and saw crappy graphics" Well, to tell you the truth, without morrowind, Oblivion would not be the Oblivion that we have all learned to love.

I never completed Morrowind, beacuse is harder to find your way around the world. In oblivion you have a compas. Morrowind graphis are ok looking the year it was made. But i have low quality on autodetect in Oblivion and i don't know why, beacuse i have Radeon 9600 but if I set better graphis the game resets every time there are battles or oblivion gates and stuff like that. And i can't even see the weapon in my hand if i'm outside. The only thing great about this is the advantage when blocking, beacuse you can see the enemy through the shield.

Well to be honest, i didn't infact play Morrowind myself, i watched my brother play. But i thoroughly enjoyed it, the amount of different, magical, unique places available was pleasing to my eye. The many interesting people to talk to,with many interesting things to say kept my attention, and was enjoyable.I've been playing oblivion for quite a while now,and i can't help but think it lacks these things.. the world (in my opinion) feels lonely and dull. There aren't many interesting people, or interesting conversations, and it seems the most common command is 'rumors' nothing personal to the NPC to make me feel involved or ..part of something?.. Maybe it's just me. I've downloaded a few mods for Oblivion, but still it lacks something. I enjoy battling for my life against (very similair) creatures, and tomb raiding and such, but i feel there could be more added to the game. At this moment i'm lost, constantly searching the mod pages for some kind of makeover for oblivion, although i don't think i'll find what i'm looking for. I'm very pleased with the graphics of the game, it has a good sense of realism to it, but, to me, the gameplay leaves a little to be desired. I guess this is a bit of a pathetic cry for help :S I don't want to quit the game, as i do enjoy most aspects of it, but i'm hoping i'll find something to reignite that passion.

I downloaded the wonderful 'brew house' mod in the hope it would give me an alternative to battling, but it doesn't hold my interest personally. Has anyone else had the same feelings, if so maybe you could offer some advice?

By the way, hey everyone :) my first post, it's lovely being a member of this site :)

Oh and another quick question, i was routing around the internet for the 'multiplayer mod' and am i right in thinking the other player wouldn't see what i was wearing, what weapons i had etc. In other words, they would see me nude?? :S

first of all welcome to the forum, :D

you are not wrong at all, Oblivion is very lonely, and the NPCs dont have much to talk about, I keep myself busy with my personal mod, which enables you to actually take over the city, you just have to kill all the guards, than once you do, all the imperial flags will be ripped down, and ur army will take the place of the guards. so I am definetely not bored, yet.

as for the multiplayer, i dont know, sorry.
