Rolfskytte
Hi guys and gals! Is it possible to share your mod setup with a friend? What I mean is, if I mod my Oblivion game extensively, can I then take all the folders in one copy-paste move and put it in another computer, and have it work?I really would like to share my modded Oblivion with my old friend you see!Of course I will *not* share my mod build publicly. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!
HeyYou
Does your friend also own the game? If so, then sure, sharing can be done. The only real issues is the sheer size of the install.... In my 'moderately' modded game, the install directory is over 20gig...... takes a while to transfer that to a thumb drive, or whathaveyou.
Rolfskytte
Is that true? That's amazing. He does own Oblivion.So.. he needs to have the game installed. But if I copy/paste my stuff into his Oblivion install directory, wouldn't it just overwrite his files completely?- are there files I wouldn't need to copy/paste?Does Oblivion place some files somewhere else on the computer which I should copy also? -or would it be a single grab do you think? Thanks
IkeCoast
Rolfskytte, it's possible but it's quite NOT THAT EASY. First, your friend must have the same Oblivion version as you, and the same patches (Official or Unofficial), and the same system extensions (OBSE, Blockhead, et cetera). Then, you copy and paste to his game JUST YOUR DATA FOLDER. Any file outside the Data folder should NOT be cloned to another installation. Your savegames will work for him only once your "clone" is installed in his system. But do not copy the entire MyGames folder to his, just the Saves. Any configuration (ini) file from your computer CANNOT be transferred to his. Look at this guide. It explains how to create a backup of the mods you have installed and restore it to a new installation, and it's, in essence, what you intend to do with your friend's game. It also contains instructions for a PROPER installation of the game. Cheers!
